Holy batman wtf happened to my data?

Edit: FALSE ALARM LIKELY. This is a massive bug. A quick search for "Data Usage" on XDA-Deveopers for the Nexus 4 reveals that CM 10.1 RC4 has data usage bugs potentially with many users reporting it. Whew. I just thought that Nexii don't really have any major bugs typically

So apart from falling asleep while reading an article on my laptop last night and having my phone in my hand and waking up at 5am find it low on battery and plugging it in to charge, I got to work at 8am today went to a meeting from 9-11am at a supplier. At the supplier I turned on my hotspot to VPN back into my company to pull a few emails.

I can understand the hotspot use.. 100mb so quickly? Ok that's fine, but how did hangouts, Google Play store, etc explode?

I'll admit I updated a few apps these past few days: Lightflow, Foursquare, Greenify, but all that does NOT add up to that much transfer. And how the hell is Hangouts using so much data? I have an Ingress chat going on, but unless they're pasting Wikipedia articles in there, I sho uld be ok. Even if they went wild with 640x480 images, I shouldn't have that much data.

I also have Google+ Sync OFF and it greenified. WTF is going on? Pulse has its sync off. I almost want to say is it possible to have an error in reporting? I don't even believe these stats. It doesn't make sense.

My phone alerted me that I was at 2gb during my meeting and so I shut it off. This is ridiculous. May 31 - June 7 = 2gb? How the hell do I get through my billing cycle?

Clearly something went down June 7th, but even if you look at May 31 - June 6, I still cannot understand how Hangouts wastes so much data.

Weren't you posting in another thread about how your battery life is horrible? Sounds like you have something running crazy running in the background. I would factory reset & start from scratch.

I flashed a new ROM on May 31st. CyanogenMod 10.1 RC4. I'm not sure what happened here but I did do a clean flash.

I'm thinking its a mistake. I've been monitoring wakelocks for the past few days and Pulse and Hangouts are certainly not on there.

the only thing I can think of is as I fell asleep I magically video called someone and it gobbled up my data... havent even done a video call on Hangouts yet.

As for Pulse I can't even explain that. What about Google Search

And that right there is why it's hard to listen to some people complain about bugs when they're running alpha/beta non-official software.

Did I say the device was the problem? I'm asking for support on Anandtech. CyanogenMod is practically rock solid stable on a Nexus device. Go ask anyone. Don't act like CyanogenMod is some sort of hacked together software that crashes 24/7 and has countless bugs that make daily use impossible. I wouldn't have expected this to happen.

My point is that complaining about bugs or issues when you're running non-official software that's still in beta is a bit much, and you specifically seem to complain a lot.

No, I specifically like to find issues and discuss them. You seem content with everything, which is fine if you want. Any criticism = unnecessary complaining apparently to you.

How was I complaining about a bug here? I was asking WHAT is going on. I'm not sure. Because it's so unbelievable, I said one sentence where it might be a bug. I was looking for answers more than anything. Here's an example of what real complaining would've looked like:

- Wow I can't believe this ROM is so buggy, how can the CM team still have a bug like this despite being in RC4?
- This bug shows how bad Android is at handling data. It tends to waste data unnecessarily through syncing. I would never see this on iOS

Yeah even they don't claim its "rock solid stable".

Every software out there has minor issues, maybe except for "Hello World" code. Stock AOSP 4.2.2 has plenty of issues too. Yes there's always risk in running custom ROMs, but AOSP based ROMs on Nexus devices are pretty much close to "stable." Stable doesn't mean bug free anyway, so what's the point? Yes I get it, this is a downside of running CM instead of stock. However, I would not have expected, and most users would not have expected such a bug to come up. It's another thing if I'm asking why my custom navigation bar keeps crashing or why CM quiet hours don't work. I was just looking for some answers and I'm glad figured it out.

You should do. It's part of the deal in using the ROMs, you're supposed to look for and report bugs.
