Hollywood celebs ask electors to not vote for Trump

Vote your conscience. Ohh F$%% OFF. I am so sick of these people that are just so sure that this is some heinous world-ending event. Maybe spend your time figuring out why you couldn't beat an ass like Trump.

Not only can electors vote any way they want, it is very likely unconstitutional for it to be any other way.

Why do you say that? A federal district court just ruled that Colorado electors have to vote for Hillary based on the Colorado law. I don't know if there are other rulings on the matter, but as it stands right now it seems to be constitutional.

<edit> I didn't see your subsequent post

So you're saying the SCOTUS is likely to disagree, but at this point the most recent federal court ruling says it's constitutional.

I say it due to to previous SCOTUS writing that spoke to this issue which I quoted where they strongly imply that they would find it unconstitutional. It also appears that legal scholars agree.

The ruling only held that requiring a pledge, not a vote, was constitutional and Justice Jackson, joined by Justice Douglas, wrote in his dissent, "no one faithful to our history can deny that the plan originally contemplated what is implicit in its text – that electors would be free agents, to exercise an independent and nonpartisan judgment as to the men best qualified for the Nation's highest offices."[8] More recent legal scholars believe "a state law that would thwart a federal elector’s discretion at an extraordinary time when it reasonably must be exercised would clearly violate Article II and the Twelfth Amendment."[9]

And if Clinton won the EC but lost the popular vote, the Ds would be doing the same. But I certainly hope you admit that threatening members of the EC is going too far.

I think you would find that conservatives' affinity for the electoral college goes exactly as far as it getting them the results they want and not a step further. Doc Savage Fan said something to that effect the other day when he complained that if electors in a state that voted for Trump didn't vote for him in the electoral college that this would somehow disenfranchise them. He didn't seem to have any awareness that the electoral college already doesn't respect the will of the voters, as shown by the fact that the person with the largest popular vote loss by a winner in US history is the president-elect.

So basically it's: 'the electoral college doesn't give the presidency to the person with the most votes? Those are the rules, so stop whining about them.' followed by: 'wait, the rules say the electors can pick whoever they want and ignore the popular vote? THAT'S SO UNFAIR!'

Well I have no idea who these 'democrats' are but I've been very consistent in wanting to abolish the electoral college for a long time. It's a stupid institution. It's not even some imagined hypocrisy in the future, by the way, conservatives are being internally inconsistent even in their arguments today. They want the country to abide by the rules of the electoral college when it gives Trump the presidency but then complain about following the rules of the electoral college when it turns out that means the electors can boot him. Can't have it both ways.

No one has supported threatening anyone, so that goes without saying.

Why do we hold these so-called founding fathers in such high regard? These men are responsible for genocide and mass looting. Are these Hollywood celebrities aware of that or even care?

Hollywood is part of the grand game. These people are part of the manipulation process; their movies, TV shows, documentaries, commercials etc. are part of the mind and heart control operation. These people are crying because their favorite puppet was not put in place.

What do these people know about truth or justice? These people are selective in their outrages.

Where is their outrage over America's role in the destabilizing of the world?

When this country was founded on a lie, a total fabrication of reality, can we put any faith in those so-called founding fathers these Hollywood manipulators speak of?

Really? Honestly all the shady political behavior in the last year is coming from one side. Let's be real here. I can easily write a long ass post of shady GOP bullshit that has gone down this year. Heck even this week in NC since the GOP governor has lost and the new governor is a Democrat, the GOP house and senate has moved to swiftly pass borderline unconstitutional legislation limiting the powers of the incoming governor as a means to hamstring him.

It's always interesting to see them make that argument of 'Democrats would do the same thing if the situation were reversed!' while ignoring that the situation has been reversed many, many times... and Democrats don't do it. It's not entirely one sided of course, but to pretend that the two sides are equal is some pretty amazing psychological projection. I guess they think Democrats would violate governing norms because they themselves don't have a problem with violating them.

Why are the so worried. Trump is one of them, he is not going to take away thier yachts, limos, mansions, private jets,10M+ mansions with 20 rooms or more.

I don't particularly care what celebrities say, even though I am a progressive and probably agree with the sentiment of most of it. But they have every right to say something if they want to. Sometimes if they say something smart I'll applaud them for it. It's nice when celebrities use their public position to help out charities. And if they want to talk politics too, by all means, go ahead. People can disagree or agree or have no opinion at all. It didn't hurt anybody.

Nope, I've been against the electoral college my whole life, regardless of the outcome of elections. Liberals are most certainly not ignorant of the purpose of the electoral college, it's just that its purpose is stupid and was originally primarily to protect slavery. We already have a system heavily biased against majority rule, no reason to take that even further.

Bad attempt at false equivalence. There is no disconnect between saying 'this system is bad and we should get rid of it, but so long as it exists all the rules count'. This is in marked contrast to conservatives who believe that not respecting the popular vote is a feature immediately up until someone might not respect the popular vote in a way that hurts conservatives. Then it's suddenly unfair.
Slavery was just the powder keg in a broader conversation on the balance between a strong centralized federal government and maintaining the states as autonomous incubators focused on providing more intimate and localized governance. The whole Hamilton vs Jefferson cage match. The electoral college was a nuanced and well designed compromise between the two.

Also false equivalency not found. Playing both sides of a coin is hypocritical no matter who is making the toss. Disliking the status quo but willing to accept aspects of it when it works in your favor is no less hypocritical than supporting the status quo but not liking when certain aspects work against you.

What? Of course it is. Are you nuts?

...... and we have a late entrant for the dumbest post of the year race 😀

Lets see, perhaps we hold them in high regard for, oh, I dunno, creating the framework that established the most powerful country in the history of the world? A framework that continues to work to this day when other systems have failed all over the place.

You're missing the point. The special snowflakes were told no. In their minds, no nation has ever failed so totally as that.

Yeah likes/dislikes not shown and comments off of course. Probably wasn't the glowing praise wanted.

The other thread called ...Russian hacks... is above this one as I post and I couldn't help but juxtapose and read this one as "Hollywood hacks..."

It's always funny to see the people who think they are endlessly oppressed by any number of conspiracies of the powerful try and call other people special snowflakes.

You guys really don't see the irony, do you?

It's extremely mentally taxing playing the victim card 24/7. It's why they're so jealous of the safe spaces they used to bitch about, but clearly need for themselves now that their Strongman has won the election.

STFU, Donnie.
