1. Nintendo DS - She always complains I hog the PSP on every trip, even commented about it 2-3 days ago. $100

2. New iPod Nano - She has commented numerous times over the past 2-3 weeks how cute it is, even going so far as to show me an ad she saw in a magazine of hers. She currently has an old 1st gen thats on its way out. $135

3. Coach Purse - I know the one she wants, roughly $230ish.

Obviously, I could benefit myself from 1 or 2... #3 is hers and hers alone.

Which to get?

damn...hard choice. what does she do most though, play games, listen to music, or does she need both (aka, the purse)?

A $230 purse? Damn.

I'd say #1 or #2 just for the benefit vs expense aspect. An expensive purse seems like nothing more than a publicly visible status symbol.

Given the large price difference between the purse and the nano, maybe you could get the Nano, and then go with her to find a nice $100 purse - one that has a pocket suitable for a Nano. :)

4. A boyfriend ;) (joking)

I would go with #2 or #3 b/c I dont see many females gaming much.

EDIT: You know that you will again hog the #1 even if you get it for her :p

I got myself a DS for my birthday 2 years ago.

My wife has since liberated it from my possesion and plays it constantly. She likes the Brain Age, and even some old school Mario on it.

Normally I would agree with you, since that is the judging I try to put on an item I would buy for myself.
However, in this case I would say get what you think would make her the happiest.

Good point. I should have typed "whichever she'll get more use out of and will please her inner soul" :Q

With that blatant of a hint, you really need to buy this. The new nanos look quite nice for someone who doesn't care about keeping their complete music collection in their portable.

Maybe toss in a couple of iTunes cards so she can add some new music budget-guilt-free.

The Coach - even not knowing your wife's tastes. I don't know of any woman who wouldn't be very appreciative of a Coach. It'll be used many times a day and therefore could evoke fond feelings - unlike the other stuff considered.

Help me out here...if she is complaining about you hogging the PSP, why would you buy her a DS? Wouldn't a PSP be better? Plus couldn't you then link them together for multiplayer stuff?

The simple answer is, of course, what she would enjoy the most. As much as I hate to suggest it, the purse might be the way to go.

Never base your choices of gifts for a woman based on logic. What is most useful is not the issue. Like others said, what will make her feel the best?

Really now. And we're immune from this?

On the other hand, if one can truly figure out what makes another feel good then I bow down to them.

I understand your consternation and I too have little insight into what most others feel, but after living with a woman for 30 years I can say if I choose presents based on my head rather than my heart I'm setting myself up for failure.

I had a gift suggestion a few years ago from a gf - no guessing this time. She wanted a fountain pen - remember them? Logic said this was ridiculous but got it anyhow and it was much appreciated.

30 years? You must be doing something right.

Get her the nano... she's gone to the trouble of pointing out an ad for one she likes.

I got my nano in May and love it.

btw, I carry a really well done Coach knockoff that cost me $40, I get constant comments and praise on the bag...even from women who I know own the real thing.

Another vote for the Nano. My better half has also given hints that she wants an iPod. And by given hints I mean has said several times "get me an iPod for Xmas". :D

Holy crap dude. That is like the exact same thing as my girlfriend's wish list. Creepy! She loves my DS and is always playing it when she comes over, she's got an original Ipod that the battery life is growing ever shorter on and she's always eyeballing Coach anything when we go shopping.

I hope I'm not the other man!!!!
