Holiday Inn, EconoLodge, Super 8 Motel, etc.

Need to make reservations for our trip to Cayuga Lake. Will be staying in a hotel 3 nights in Ithaca. Here are the hotels and rates

I would prefer to stay at one of the cheapest hotels, but we also want to have a good night's sleep. Holiday Inn has an indoor pool and room service...

Super 8, Motel 6 type places are fine if all you want is a room to sleep and shower in. If you want to be able to do stuff in the hotel, then stay somewhere like Holiday Inn, Marriott, etc.

First choice is Courtyard by Marriott for most consistent (good) quality. Holiday Inn quality depends on the property. New ones are good, old ones can be quite bad. Clarion is much better than Econo, Super8 etc.

You should go to Hilton's site and search the entire Hilton family, including Hampton Inn.

If you're on vacation though, the location may be more important.

i have stayed at good holiday inns and bad, good super 8s and dumps...
i second the trip advisor idea, but keep in mind that people will have good and bad experiences at even the best hotels.
Clarion and the Marriott are nice as well

Yeah, Trip Advisor has some great (funny) reviews! Do a search for the Detroit Ramada for a few good laughs.

Holiday Inns are decent...includes B'fast to...I travel alot and stay in Hawthorne Suites, Hallmark Suites,La Quinta Inns...I found the the EconoLodges,Super8, Homestead,AmeriSuites have paper thin walls and I will never stay there again. If you dont mind that , go cheap then.

its only a bed.. go cheapest...

Darn this is a a tough call. The frugal side of me wants to save $150 by going with EconoLodge, but the stressed out side of me wants to relax in a nice bed with privacy and clean sheets.

😕

Here are some other Itaca, NY hotels.

I would choose Holiday Inn. If you are a AAA member, ask the hotel if they offer a discount?
And in my experience, hotels don't ask for your AAA membership card when you check in.

That's also been my experience [insert obligatory 😉 😉 WINK WINK NUDGE NUDGE 😉 😉 ]

I once stayed at a Super 8 and I had to get the hotel soaps and shampoos from a vending machine...it wasn't included in the $60/night rate. I'll never stay there again. Holiday Inn is probably the nicer of the options you listed, but EconoLodge isn't all bad.... I've stayed in some nice ones (considering).

Nope, not an AAA member. I decided on Super 8 because it was the lowest rate, but when I went to reserve it I found out that those rates are misleading. The $50 is for AARP members and senior discounts. For a standard rate, my rates showed up as $65 for the first two nights and $75 for New Years Eve.

I looked at Comfort Inn which had a cheap rate of $63.99. Figured if I'm going to spend that much anway, I'd pick a slightly better hotel (I've stayed at Comfort Inns, they're decent). I checked out Trip Advisor like Jnetty99 suggested and found that the Comfort Inn was ranked #6 and the Holiday Inn (which I was leaning on staying at despite the higher rates) was #10. All of the comments for Comfort in were positive. All of the comments for Holiday Inn were negative (bad service, bad view, bad breakfast).

So I compared the rates I found on choicehotels.com and metrotravelguide had them cheaper, but were classified under "Traveltoday rates" and I didn't know what that meant. I called the Hotel directly and asked what this was and what rate was available to me, and the host told me if I book with her on the phone she would give me a 10% discount on the standard rate which resulted at 62.99, which also included breakfast.

Yay! We finally have a vacation!

Congrats!

The reservation reps are paid on commission so they're usually very accomodating when it comes to discounts. When my in laws visited Portland, I wanted to book online. The phone rep just would not let me go, so just before I ended the call she threw a 10% off at me. That clinched the deal and I reserved over the phone instead of online.
