Holiday deals on RAM, what are we needing for SB?

Looking at some of the motherboards already announced they're dual channel, so I'd be buying sticks in 2x sets, but would DDR3 1600 be adequate for a SB build or should I be looking at something else? DDR3 2000?

I figure if the memory is good with LGA 1156, it should be good with LGA 1155 too right?

Is anyone else buying parts now for a SB build or is it better to simply wait at this point?

Sorry if this is slightly bleeding over into the Memory and storage realm, but I figured nobody knows more about SB than the CPU forum.

I'm on a budget, so I just went with 4 gig of 1333 Ripjaws. $55. Yes, it will work fine with SB.

I've done my homework - there isn't that much of a difference for gaming. However, I will not be going with much of an oc, either, and I think that does make a difference? I'm a noob with oc'ing tho.

any ddr3 should work since from what i understand you are locked out of adjusting the bus so you will be unable to overclock the memory.

Yeah, I think anything above DDR3-1600 PC3-12800 is considered out of JEDEC Spec and will require an overclock to actually run at that speed.

You could always buy faster as they make up to DDR3-2500 now for future boards but I can't even buy the brand I like at those speeds.

MY UD4 manual says DDR3-2133 is supported, but various tests say it doesn't make a huge difference. I went with low voltage / low latency DDR3-1600.

I thought I read that you can't adjust the FSB, but you can select different set memory speeds, or ratios, within the BIOS. Nevertheless, I think super-high speed RAM will be less important with SB than it is with 1366/1156 boards.

This is possible, perhaps when the actual reviews hit the net we will see what memory dividers intel has made available, and if they differ from the lower end chips to the K series chips.

I picked up 8GB Ripjaws DDR3 1600 for $99 on BF sale and I assume it will work fine....

Yeah, with the great sales going on now for 4 and 8GB sets, it should be handy for the SB release. When Nehalem was initially launched, memory prices were really high (unfortunately). This will be really nice, especially for those coming from a 775 DDR2 platform. You could probably sell your DDR2 (say 4GB) for almost as much as 6-8GB of DDR3. ;)

Those kinds of deals are what I'm looking at jumping on, I saw some 2x4 sticks for ~$100 but didn't want to gimp a SB build.

I'm thinking based on what I've read here that if I see another deal like that I'll jump on it, especially with rumors of slightly tighter supply and a bigger demand when SB does hit.

I'll most definately be getting 8GB (2x4GB) of ram for my new SB build. I'm curently sitting on 4GB of DDR2 so i don't see much point in buying only 4GB of DDR3. I would love some Corsair GT's, but they don't sell any as a 2x4GB kit, at least not that i've seen here in Norway :|.

The Corsair Vengence Ram looks like a nice deal - 2x4GB.

The other kit i was considering was the Corsair Dominator GT 4x2GB - Although it's a big whack more expensive than the above mentioned ram.

How are some mobos out there boasting support for like 2133? How are you supposed to OC the ram?
