Hole Saws?

Anybody know where I could buy a good 3" or 3-1/8" Hole Saw & Arbor set to cut a hole for an 80mm fan on my side panel? I seen a lot on ebay in a kit but I don't think any of them cut metal/steel/watever my side panel is made of

Go to your local hardware store. You should be able to find them for ~10 bucks. That is about what we sell them for at Ace Hardware (where I work), and we tend to be a little more expensive than a "big box" store like home depot.

Ehh I bet there's plenty of stores that sell them but problem is I'm stuck in dorms with no car and there's NOTHING within walking distance. And all the people with car's I know go home on weekends and leave me stranded

I buy all of my hole saws at my local Sears Hardware; they carry the Mailwaukee hole saws which are nice. Only caveat with the Milwaukees is that you need a 1/2" drill because the arbor is pretty big. I have found 60mm, 80mm, and 92mm saws there (other sizes too, obviously).

You can find a bi-metal hole saw Home Depot, Lowes, OSH, etc. The size you're looking for should run $10-$14. You should also be able to find what you need at your local Aubochon's, Tru-Value, etc. but it may run you a couple of bucks more.

"bimetal holesaw" is what you want.

you know what i did for my first holes?

they were for 120mm fans. i bought a 2.5" holesaw, and made a clover, 4 circles offset. a year or 2 later, i finished it off, and cut off some odds and ends from the clover with a jig saw.

if you have any questions after getting the holesaw, come back and ask.

here is what you shoudl get:

• holesaw
• arbor (the drill thing for the holesaw)
• cutting lubricant (ask a KNOWLEDGEABLE sales person, it's most often a light weight oil)
• protective eye wear (fully closed googles recommended, not just safety glasses)
• protective gloves, you dont want to get cut
• a sanding block or sand paper, to polish the edge so you dont cut yourself
• a piece of wood to drill into you can practice on the wood,, and use it as a backing for the panel when you drill so you dont bend the cover
• if you drill parts of the case, make sure it's empty, and you clean off all metal shavings, ALL. vacuum, and wipe it down with a tack cloth.

If you don't want to invest a fortune to cut a hole or two, buy a nice jigsaw and some good metal cutting blades. Don't forget to cover the area with masking tape to avoid scratching it with the bottom of the saw.

* Skil Jigsaw
* DeWalt Blades (The 3" 32 TPI blades work very well for me)
* Scotch masking tape (2" wide should work just fine)

The ones I saw at my local B&B Hardware (big enough for an 80mm fan at least) were ~40-50 dollars. They looked pretty flimsy, too. Haven't been to Home Depot recently, but I figured it would be about the same price from the big chain store. Maybe I'm wrong.

holesaws starting at about 3" or larger are VERY expensive.

You get what you pay for......Mine cost about $35 at sears with the arbor. It'll fit in a 3/8 drill motor. The thin steel or aluminum in these cases is easily cut. Be sure to drill a pilot hole (small starter hole) that is smaller than the arbor bit. This keeps the hole saw from walking(Moving around). Use duct tape to insure a clean cut. A high-speed drill motor also makes a cleaner cut.
