Hold Music Computer

Right now, the hold music for my company is literally a 1980's radio hooked up to our phone system with a mini-jack cable. I'd like to replace it with a spare desktop.

Is buying a few CD's, ripping them, and having them on loop in a media player a simple enough solution or is that technically illegal?

You could always get some public-domain recordings of classical music and use those for hold music...
