For those lucky enough not be following this Gawker released a sex tape of Hulk Hogan. Last year it came out that Hogan said some racists things on that tape.
 
I think Hogan inserted his penis into a woman's vagina while it was being video recorded and the woman wasnt his wife and then Hogan went racist and the woman who owns the vagina Hogan's penis was in sent the tape to the internet.
 
Gawker's argument for why they kept the tapes up is just so hilariously brash and absurd. They think they were entitled because it was in the public interest that they could prove Hogan was lying about not having slept with this woman.

They must apparently think "public interest" actually means "the public is interested." By that rationale the Jennifer Lawrence leaks (which Gawker Media heavily condemned via Jezebel) were warranted because the public was really interested in seeing her naked.

They are of course going to go out kicking and screaming about how this violates free speech and the constitution all the way to the final ruling but it probably won't stop them from losing.

Hulk Hogan just won BIG in his war with Gawker -- with a jury awarding the WWE legend a $115 MILLION judgment against the company for publishing part of his sex tape online.
Hogan had only sued for $100 million ... but the jury decided it wasn't enough and bumped it up to $115 million.
The breakdown -- $55 million for economic injuries and $60 million for emotional distress. He could get even more with punitive damages.
Hogan had argued that he had no idea he was being recorded when he had sex with his friend's wife at their home in Florida back in 2007.
Gawker published 1 minute and 50 seconds of the video without Hulk's permission. Hogan claimed it was the ultimate invasion of his privacy.

Good. This was not some planned tape so the recording alone was illegal. Then it was posted without their knowledge. How did they think this was going to end? Gawker should have tried to settle this.
 
Something fishy, the guy who recorded it leaked it, gawker posted it, and now gawker gets sued? Whose to say hogan and the girls husband didn't plan this from the beginning?

Ah, ok then. No way in hell Hogan's getting that much then. For that matter he's likely not getting paid any time soon and by the time a long litigation war is over his lawyer will probably get a decent share of whatever is left.

The court can force Gawker to pay a substantial bond well before an appeal can go through, and some are saying they probably will. That alone could make things very hard for them.
