That is like saying that for someone who has never listened to music, introduce music to them through Backstreet Boys or Lady Gaga.

don't you know? facebook is now how old people keep in contact with each other and their younger relatives.

Yes, but that is hardly the route I'd take if I wanted to introduce someone to the learning and creative side of the net. Facebook is a very passive and dull and addictive thing.

sounds perfect for someone who is immobilized ^_^

You're right! Rather than give her a way to keep in contact and follow her relatives, you should introduce her to 4chan. She can become part of the internet hate machine instead...

Also, what is wrong with Backstreet Boys or Lady Gaga? Let me guess, you don't like it, so therefore it is of no value to the world? Sounds about how I feel about your posts. >_>

Internet's a good start, but fuck facebook. A gift of surveillance isn't a proper gift. With the internet, she can find things she wants to do. Without knowing her, everyone's gonna tell you what they want to do, and she probably won't be interested. It could even cause stress when she has a box full of activities she feels obligated to do, but doesn't want to.

Now that that's out of the way, what I'd like to do is woodcarving, knot work, and learning to code in Python. Run those by her :^D

Even dial-up internet would let her use gmail to stay in touch and buy books for a kindle e-ink reader or kindle app for an iPad, Android tablet, etc.

But yes, without knowing anything about her it's difficult to make any useful suggestions.

the Internet is a good resource to have which would enable lots of other activities, but it will only contribute to her newly sedentary lifestyle on the other hand. While getting up and walking around may not be a realistic goal, she can still be active and out on the move which is really important.

Musical instruments would keep her hands and mind occupied at least, but might also contribute to her just sitting around all day.

Look and see if there are any public exercise programs to keep her active and involved. I've seen plenty of wheelchair bound people on bike paths rolling along with their (grand)kids. I think a goal should be to get her mobile and involved with others personally.

Get her a bird feeder and some binoculars. I would also suggest a book on birds, for her to look up some she might not know about.

Mmorpgs Korean style and meth bob

Oops wrong thread

Give them a year of ancestry.com unless she's a orphan which would be mean

Aww....you don't like my posts? I think I would need counseling now :'(

Chill, dude...you take all this way too seriously....

What hobbies did she have before and why can't she do then now? Fiber arts, crafting, clay, stained glass, gardening, music, archery, shooting, leather work, brewing, board games, cooking, painting... the list is endless. Losing a limb changes your life but, doesn't end it. I hope she's a fighter. I've witnessed way too many people with physical handicaps give up because adapting is "too hard " or, "hurts too much " or, "nothing will ever be the same!" It makes my heart hurt.

And a pellet gun. My Mon's feeding 10 or so tree rats, a racoon and maybe an opossum. And bitching about because they run off the birds. 20lb tree rats are good eatin'.
