Ho Ho Holy Crap. As if the normal wire bindings in toys aren't enough

Was just helping my son open his Transformers Animated Leader class Megatron that he got yesterday (don't ask...we had a couple of gifts that didn't get unboxed) and not only did it have the twist ties all over his body to keep him attached to the box...but the after the ties were twisted...they were tied in knots!

I have to give kudos to whatever shoplifters are out there that can actually remove these things from the box in the store without being noticed.

Having experience getting those knots undone is the only reason I am not still trapped in Olds' basement.

It's not considered "trapped" when you are enjoying it. 🙂

lol 🙂

Get something to cut the wires? Unless, you want to take it back.

LOL I know I know exactly what you're talking about. I always have a blast trying to open up my nephew's new toys.

But that's the type of packaging you need when you're shipping the toy all the way from China!

I have two boys and just about all of their gifts have these wire ties. They suck! I agree with the others that having wire cutters handy is a good idea.

In all seriousness, a Leatherman is a great tool for Christmas. The little screwdriver is good for getting battery covers open and the knife works well for clipping the plastic ties.

My Leatherman Wave is tasked to tackle toy packaging. Most of the time I just cut the wire instead of trying to untangle the mess.

on christmas morning, i always keep a pair of dikes in my back pocket just for that occasion.

since my dad was sick, i was in charge of removing toys from boxes and assembling them. the knotted wires and zips ties sucks.

It is funny that you posted this...I was thinking the same thing as I was handed toy after toy from my boys to "open it"

There was one toy in particular that was a "jet / spaceship" which had wire tiles all over the box (close to a dozen) and then on top of it had some sort of plastic screws attached to the jet through the cardboard which were so tight they required a regular screw driver to undo them...

it took me 15 minutes to get it apart...and the whole time i am thinking to myself...WTF is going on here...who is the process engineer who came up with this retention system...I want to beat his ass!!!

Scissors ftw, those things are super fucking annoying.

Best part is they have all those ties and knots on huge plastic toys nobody can manage to sneak out unnoticed with anyway, but usually the only thing stopping someone from running out with a small electronic device is a round piece of tape.

This is revenge from the Chinese factory workers, for actually complaining about lead based paint being used on the toys they send us!!

Yup, definitely. Superior firepower.

Same with those damn heat-sealed clamshell things - superior firepower. If they're resistant to scissors or a razor blade, I let my Dremel have some fun. 😀

i just edge a sharp pocketknife in. the trick is to get it as close to the paper backing as possible so it's only cutting through one layer.

Knives only work for some of them, I've found. Some plastics seem to stick to the blade, and others are simply too thick.

It's retarded. I bought a Lord of the Rings figurine last year. I nearly cut a hole in King _____ (dude in Two Towers) while trying to cut off the ties off because they were so tight. And what was the point? Let the thing flop around a bit, or use a plastic form like Star Wars toys.

This is one of those times I wouldn't mind of one of those BS lawsuits. Somebody trying to get one of those toys removed from the box cuts themselves badly with the knife. They hire a lawyer and turn around and sue the toy manufacturer for the stupid packaging. Maybe this will get there attention because how they secure these toys in the box is ridiculous. I know that Amazon has launched frustration free packaging. - http://www.informationweek.com...ml?articleID=212000213 It is about time somebody does something.

I'm actually surprised this never happened.

But is it possible to sue a company in china from the US?
