What is the point of designing 'stealth' ships again? It's not like they're zipping in at the speed of sound, dropping a bomb on a target 30,000 feet below, and getting the hell out of dodge.

They're...boats. Generally operating in coastal waters.

'Captain! Our secret plan has come crashing down! They have binoculars!'

because you can fire missiles far beyond line of sight?

because it's harder for an enemy to get a lock on them?

One of the US's many aircraft carriers alongside Britain's only aircraft carrier still in service.

so once that carrier retires (or sinks), the only countries w/a aircraft carrier in service is the US and Russia? (i dont count China's psuedo aircraft carrier)

The French have 1 iirc. And it's nuclear.
Russia doesn't have a real aircraft carrier.
India is building one.

How are they going to get this one off the reef?

How? They'll lighten her, maybe patch her if she's leaking, then yank her off with a couple of ocean tugs. And, needless to say, that skipper's career is over.

don't know how up to date this is, it's missing the Chinese one for starters

Pretty outdated. The UK only has one aircraft carrier still in service, the Illustrious, and it doesn't even carry aircraft anymore and will be retired in 2014. And the US only has 10 aircraft carriers still in service - all the little ones on the left side are retired, and two of the larger ones are out as well (they've probably included the Enterprise and the John F. Kennedy).

According to this, there are just 21 currently active.

An aircraft carrier that now has no aircraft!

The UK spends about 38 billion pounds on its military per year but 12 billion pounds on foreign aid. Crazy.

The US spends 20+ fold that amount and doesn't conquer anything or otherwise benefit from it.

The US is building 3 more.

I believe they are to replace retired carriers.
