I worked at honeybaked ham during Christmas break during college. I was the glazer and sometimes the spiral slicer. :)

There is nothing special about a honey baked. It is a cold smoked ham that arrives at the store already smoked. Then it's spiral sliced and then the glaze.

Know what the glaze is? Melted sugar with a blow torch. You melt the sugar all over the ham until is is literally dripping with molten sugar. Then a quick touch of the spice mix followed by another super quick hit with the blow torch.

That's it - a pre-smoked whole ham with melted sugar and a little spice, which seemed to be heavy on clove.

I had salmon in an orange sauce.

wasn't that great... if I were to make it again, I'd change the recipe and add a tsp or two of cornstarch to the sauce recipe and cook it in a smaller pot (recipe said to use the same pan from the fish, but I think it would have cooked better in a 1/2-qt sauce pot)

I went to Jimmy John's today and I was looking for a ham sandwich. Ended up getting turkey breast + applewood smoked ham. <3

Ham and steak are probably my two favorite meats.

I love ham - good job Engineer. One thing that strikes me though is why so many of you guys take pics of your food? We make it then sit down and eat it. Then again I do have 3 teenagers in the house and we're a ravenous bunch. :D

Ham is great.

That reminds me some geeky friends of mine asked me to go to a "ham fest" and I thought great! It was a swap meet with people selling radio and electronic parts! I was pretty drunk at the time...

Most food should rest or cool for at least a little bit before eating :p

It stated to cook for 18 minutes per pound. 10.5 pounds. You do the math! :)

Sad part: I only ate a few pieces and then my wife packed it up and went out of town with it (she is visiting her parents until Thursday and it was for their dinner)! :(

I'll have the 20 pound turkey ready by the time she returns though! ;)

Engineer - just about any ham you buy is already cooked/cured. You're just warming it.

Eitherway, looks yummy!

Thanks spidey. Yes, I knew it was precooked. I followed the "warming" directions of 18 minutes per pound at 325 degrees. When it was finished, the juices were flowing and it was "fall off the bone" delicious! :D
