Hmmm. help me make a car audio sub decision

2 choices.

JL 13W7 woofer.
or
dB Monkey 15D2

the second one is less known. and actually the company just started up. however i have talked with the owner a few times and he says its pretty good woofer. i trust him. he wont bash other woofers and that i like.

http://www.dbmwoofers.com/ then under woofers (yea, frames + sound)
and
http://www.jlaudio.com/subwoofers/13w7.html

there is a 250$ difference in price between the two.

will be going ported, with an 1100 watt @ one ohm amp.

MIKE

MMMMMMMMMMMMMMm JL 13W7 😛 Its a beauty 🙂 If I had the money, I would go with the JL, because I honestly have no idea abut the other sub, but I DO know the JL owns. Hey Mike do you think you could help me build a system? I have about 700 bucks to spend on a deck, component speakers, and maybe a 2channel amp for the speakers. You seem to know alot more than I do with the high end stuff. Thanks again.

700 for what you want is decent, but if you want sub, and amp, that will get very low budget wise

CDT-CL61a's are the best bet, for 150$ (component speakers) or what you see in my sig are for sale, but youd prolly have to make some kick panels for them. and they are goin for 210$

deck. if you get a amp, you wont need an amp in the headunit, so alpine makes some really nice ones.

as for the amp. there are some nice budget amps around. us acoustics makes very nice budget amps.

MIKE

Thanks for the response. The CL61a's from thezeb.com were my top choice 😛 I am just looking for advice on a head unit (possibly without internal amp), and then a 2-channel amp to power the components. I am going to get the sub amp/sub later. Would it make sense to get a nice alpine, something like the 9815? And just use the internal amp to power the rear speakers, and then a nice 2channel amp to power the CDT's? because I have yet to see an alpine deck other than the 7995, and the other really high end one that don't have amps. Thanks

you want to make your passengers happy, or have ultimate staging??

rear fill brings your sound stage more right at your ears instead of in front of you.

some people however love rear fill.

DA BOMB DIGGITY H/U but it takes up your whole budget.

MIKE

MMMMMM the 7998 is purrrrdy. I see them on ebay for 516 bucks plus S&H 😛 But I just don't know that I am ready to drop 500 bucks on a headunit. I was also looking at the older 7995 (MSRP 500) which crutchfield had for 300, they ebay for about 275. Its a dead head too, but obvioulsy the 7998 is nicer. ANother question I have is for the CDT speakers, any idea on a good 2 or 4 channel amp to get? Would it make sense to get a 4 channel, and then a seperate 2 channel for the tweeters? If you could list you favorite amp manufacters that would be awesome too. 😛

Kicker Comp VR's are the way to go. Great lows, and they actually sound decent. Not as good as a Polk Momo. But what good is bass if all it sounds is distorted? If you have money to burn, the Kicker L7's are major. My friend has 2 12"'s and is pushing each with a MTX 8100(I think) class D amp. Sounds fff'in sweet!

JL is overrated for the price, haven't heard much about DBmonkey, the sub looks like crap but looks can be decieving 🙂

The new eclipses are the shiat, coming out at the end of next month. They blow away the alpines as far as SQ.

They blow away Alpines in terms of everything.
Eclipse > Alpine.

Eclipse > Alpine.

The newer ones will, the only thing IMO that alpine had over this past years models were frills and flashy stuff. If the 8443 had mp3 capability this past year then it would have been no question.

<---Hardcore eclipse fan.

yea, the only thing, is that the dbm woofer hit 149.8 db's with 1200 watts @ dash, @ 43 hz, in a daily driver box, not just any specific competition box.

hmm. the dbm is half the price.
