Hmmm, can't decide between Palm and PocketPCs...

I have heard really good things about the new Palm Tungsten E model which I can get at newegg for $184, but Dell has a nice pocket PC that has a slightly larger screen, a 300Mhz Xscale proc for $199. Whuddya think?

As a user of a Palm 5 and now a Ipaq 2215 pocket PC I would have to say go with the palm if you are cost conscious. Pocket PC is expensive and every bit of useful software you find will cost you desktop price! The palm's OS is superior stability-wise but the pocket PC seems more compatible if you are using Windows PC's.. Duh... The Pocket Pc gaming scene is very good, very close to desktop gaming which means that if you use gameboy, get a Pocket PC, the games are off the hook visually!
If you are a work-aholic and use business grade applications then go with palm.

Pocket PC has more multitasking support and very good media support (movies, games, music).

Palms don't really multitask, though some devices let you play music and do one more thing at a time. Usually though, they quit one app as soon as you launch another.

People do say the Palm's usual calendar, contacts, etc is easier to use, but Pocket PC's info management works well with Outlook, which is included with Pocket PCs. In both cases, there are 3rd party tools for info management as well.

Some Pocket PCs have a CF slot, which is very helpful too. They can take much cheaper memory cards, cheap CF wireless cards, etc.

Good points made. What will be its primary use? PIM, Word/Excel file viewer, Gaming, Videos, etc. I myself have a Palm Zire 71 and I use it primarily as a PIM and it works well. The built-in camera is also handy for snapping photos 🙂

I haven't checked PDA sites in a while but couple off the top of my head are Brighthand or PDAStreet

good luck
