Hmmm Asus: P4B 266, C, E or SE?

I've fallen behind the hardware curve the last 5 or 6 months...I'm not totally sure what's up.

But I'm looking for a decent Pentium4 board with DDR.
I prefer Asus as a brand.

No comments on the DDR vs Rambus thing...I know Rambus has come way down in price and is better performing with the P4...but it'd be pretty hard to fing 512MB of Rambus for as cheap as the 512MB of DDR I already have. So I'd like to stick to that.

So, since I want an Asus P4 board with DDR, I see my choices are 266, 266C, 266E and 266SE.

I have no idea what the differences here are...someone want to fill me in?

Thanks.

- Jon.

I am eyeing that P4S533 on the Asus site. May wait until it comes out here. Otherwise like the P4B266 w/ USB 2.0 and Audio or P4S333.

horrid spelling 🙂

Wait a little longer for the ASUS P4B533 board.

Digit Life has a whole series of pictures of the entire coming ASUS lineup, including the P4B533 and the P4S533 boards.

Get the P4B266 (with USB 2.0 ports and onboard sound). Disable the sound or use it as I've head it's decent. Then you'll have 4 USB ports on board, maybe saving you the need to hookup a hub. And also if you happen to bump into the "usb 1.1 ports don't work reliably at higher fsb speeds" you can always use the 2.0 ports instead. $30-$50 more though.
