Meh. Break into my house, you get shot. Law should protect home owners. I mean, it'd deter theives if they know they can get shot.

Third black guy shouldn't be charged with murder of the two other black guys, but should be charged with attempted murder of the stepson.

that's what they get.

I love out the NAACP ignores that the owner's stepson was beaten to being practically a vegatable.

The mother's excuse was funny too. They jsut wanted to buy some pot. Right...

Black, white, latino, asian, or Canadian, if you break into my house when I am home I will shoot till i am out of bullets and piss on your corpse(s).

This dipshit lawbreaking son of a bitch is getting what he deserves. No pity from me for someone who breaks into a house, especially with the homeowner being home.

in massachusetts, you have to prove beyond rediculous doubt that:

1. your life was in immenent danger
2. you are not white, nor have you ever been white
3. you gave the intruder a handjob and a batch of freshly baked cookies

if all 3 conditions are met, you are legally entitled to call the police with your dying breath so they can draw an outline around your body.

Yikes, weird story. I think it's a BS law, kind of like Felony Murder. At the same time, the NAACP shouldn't be whining about him shooting the other two people. Once they've brain damaged your kid with a baseball bat, it's wayyyy past where you have to act with restraint.

if you break into my house, and beat my son with a baseball bat, damn straight I am going to shoot. If I had a gun, and a house, and a son. But the idea remains. ;)

Maybe he should, maybe he shouldn't.
This isn't like the situation where 2 helicopters crashed following a police chase (and they said the guy being chased could be prosecuted for the deaths/crash - but the reporters didn't have to be there, and it was their own fault for following the chase), since any deaths that occur during a crime can be blamed on the criminal.

You could argue it's a bit unfair to charge the remaining guy with the deaths of the other two, but it was partly his fault they died, and he was a cause of the whole thing (crime + deaths), so the law is not biased against the man because he's black, this story has happened before.

Arguably he shouldn't really be held responsible, but this isn't a racist things because he's black, it's a law thing that's almost happened once already this year in a similar crazy situation.

It's NAACP's racism to ignore this part:

Edmonds' stepson, Dale Lafferty, suffered brain damage from the baseball bat beating he took during the melee. The 19-year-old lives in a rehabilitation center and can no longer feed himself.

I don't care about the race of these thugs, I'm just glad two of them won't be around to destroy any more lives. Hopefully the third will get a nice long jail sentence to keep him off the streets.

I liked the spin of trying to make it sound like these were just a couple of misguided kids... "This man had no business killing these boys."

The youngest of the 3 criminals was 21.

I thought this only applied to police officers? Why are civilians given that privilege? It doesn't even make sense. The dead men were not underage or innocent. They deserved what happened to them.

EDIT: I change my mind. Might equals right. The law is the law. This guys deserves to be charged for their murder if the law says so. Besides, the law isn't bias in any way.

This is nothing new and not related to race at all.

2 or three people rob a store at gunpoint, the owner of the store shoots back and kills one one of the robbers, and the remaining robbers are charged with his death.

Fairly common charge and correct, imo.

The man is dead because they attempted an armed robbery. They are responsible for the death, not the store owner.

in a case like this, all the bad press will inevitably lead to this guys acquittal and freedom. the prosecutor should pick his fights wisely and go for the max sentence on premeditated attempt on murder. something tells me this guy going to be on Oprah soon recalling the fun times him and his poor dead friends had in childhood...

I don't care how "rarely" a legal doctrine is invoked, if it's law, it's law.

"This man had no business killing these boys," Brown said. "They were shot in the back. They had fled."

Boo-hoo. The idiots made the mistake of breaking into the house of a smart homeowner.

"Edmonds' stepson, Dale Lafferty, suffered brain damage from the baseball bat beating he took during the melee. The 19-year-old lives in a rehabilitation center and can no longer feed himself. "

To me, thats enough of a reason to use the maximum amount of retaliatory force available to me at the moment.

Three young black men break into a white man's home in rural Northern California. The homeowner shoots two of them to death ? but it's the surviving black man who is charged with murder.

This is the bullshit also. NAACP leader says why shoot them? They were fleeing from the house. Screw that someone attacks my family, I would shoot them for fear they would come back.

"This man had no business killing these boys," Brown said. "They were shot in the back. They had fled."

The district attorney said that race played no part in the charges against Hughes and that the homeowner was spared prosecution because of evidence he was defending himself and his family, who were asleep when the assailants barged in at 4 a.m.

Edmonds' stepson, Dale Lafferty, suffered brain damage from the baseball bat beating he took during the melee. The 19-year-old lives in a rehabilitation center and can no longer feed himself.

Did you expect a different response from the NAACP?

Strange law, but if it gets this thug off the streets I'm all for it.

Anybody that breaks into to someones home and starts beating people with a bat should expect to die. And I'm really getting tired of people defending behavior like this and complaining that these thugs are treated unfairly:(, people that have no regard for human life and no sense of right and wrong don't deserve any consideration. They deserve to be locked in a small dark place or executed.
