Hmm, the word e-bay is banned, but links aren't?

Doesn't that kind of beat the purpose :)

And it seems you can put a space between E and BAY and the filter will still be in place. I typed THE BAY AREA.

Prevents people from linking their auctions to gain attention (most likely in FS/FT and Hot Deals). I haven't tested to see if egay is allowed or not (this shall be a test). I can't figure out why it is a banned word, and why placing the letters together like in your example causes the language filter to throw a fit.

There are legitimate reasons for typing the word egay out, I've never been able to figure out why it was banned.

Well, it wouldn't let me type the word, I guess it still is banned.

<< It depends on the perspective of banned >>

As in it doesn't go through the word filter by mortal means.

golden bear: Yah, I was going through the same problem too. Can't really say "in San Fran", since I'm technically not in San Francisco. Can't really say "in Sunnyvale" 'cause no one outside of the <> bay area would no where I was talking about... and I >really< don't want to have to say "in San Jose"... cause... well.. San Jose sucks. ;)
