hmm... suggestion for FS/FT forum... (not sure if it goes in this forum..)

Seeing that there isnt a "suggestions" forum, I guess this is the next closest thing...

Any chance the FS/FT forum could be broken down into subforums for diff categories of FS (i.e. video, motherboard/cpu, case items, non-computer, etc)? It might help cut through all of the threads and make it easier to browse for specific items rather than dig through 100 threads to find things.
 
At doesnt make a dime off our transactions, so there is no incentive to make this a shoppers paradise. I think we are fortunate to have what we do have. 🙂

Besides they definitely have no plans to expand the forums. They are taking a loss on it as it is.

Now that's an interesting idea. What if AT charged 50 cents or a dollar for every item sold? It would be not all that much to the seller, and they would be helping AT out some.

Or maybe a percentage of the sell price should go to AT. I don't know. It just seems like that might help the forums out since they're already losing enough money as it is.
 
while your intentions are good, that would make this place into ebay. Subscribers already pay to use the forum, and it is great, I just don't see anyone paying to list each item (most sell many at a time)
 
Maybe AT or some member should start up a donation fund to donate to Zuni and Anand to assist them in running AT. If every member (of over 80000) was to donate just one dollar that would be a nice sum of money to help them out. I know many of us already subscribe, but I would be more than willing to donate a few bucks to a general fund to keep the forums up and running.
 
I'm curious as to how much money they are actually losing? And why the forums haven't been shut down? 😕

#1) yea, that would be a problem...
but #2) its hard to search for a specific item sometimes when I'm just browsing for things/deals that catch my eye instead of having plans to buy a certain thing.
 
As was mentioned before, hit ebhay if you want categories 🙂 If you are a forum subscriber, you can do searches on the bodies of the messages and can search for stuff like "CPU" "mobo" "video" etc. It would be a nightmare trying to enforce a 50 cent per listing fee on the FST forum. It would turn to nothing pretty quick as people went to other forums to sell the stuff without a fee, after all if they wanted to pay a fee they could do it on ehey. I mean having EVERY single person there put in a credit card or whatever, that would seriously suck. And how would you possibly enforce item sold to charge (your idea, rather than enforce to list item) them? You would have to set up a whole bidding system and winning bidders etc, other wise people would say the item didn't sell to avoid paying. How about trades? That would totally kill trades. Trust me its a bad idea, think it out 🙂

Sure it takes a few extra minutes to scan thru the FSFT listings, but its worth it to keep it the way it is. There's plenty of other auction sites for people who want a more structured venue.

search function is your friend.
 
Subscribe and you have the advanced search to find what you want to buy. I like it the way it is. Who has time to visit more than 1 or 2 FS/FT forums and then have to face the prospect of going through numerous categories if that were to occur. The fee thing will never work on selling items and would only cause people to go elsewhere to sell/trade. I'm pretty sure most of the regulars to FS/FT are subscribers because they need the extra PM's, etc. so I think alot of us are supporting that forum anyway.

Oh, and one more thing......It won't be happening 😀

It does search titles though, and most people put a short description in the title of their threads.
 
this has been asked for on numerous occassions. it wont happen. i dont really see the need for it either.

just use the search feature.
