Hmm intersting noise every 2½ seconds

Try any/all of these:

- Check the connection in the back of your machine
- Reboot
- Update drivers (even if they're the same)
 
Unplug the connection to your computer to see if it's coming from your machine or the speakers itself. Try some headphones and see if you still get it.

Check your mixer to see if something that is usually muted (like line-in from TV tuner) is unmuted.
 
It could be picking up interference from something else. I noticed this when I bought a new cordless phone a while back. When its off the cradle I can hear a blip as you described through my stereo, regardless of which input is selected.

I just realized...I was looking up some numbers on my deactivated cel phone last night, and set it on top of my computer. So much for that EMI-proof design Enlight promised 🙂
