A 1230 is decent - like an upper 20's on an ACT I think. Where do you want to go to school? For most places you'll be fine, and if you're in the midwest with a good ACT the only major reason to worry about SAT is if you're trying for National Merit.

Check out princetonreview.com or US News or some of the other college guides; Stanford is the hardest in all of them, at least the last time I looked.

I got 1100 on mine, so yours isn't to bad.

Considering the average is 1000, mine isn't that shabby either.

Your 1120 isn't too shabby if it's been awhile since you took it.

In 1995, they recentered the scoring system for the SAT's, so for example, if you originally had a 700, that is now an 820, which is the NCAA minimum requirement for Div. 1 athletes. Pretty sad IMO if you can't get any better than an 820...especially since you get 400 pts just for signing your name.

BTW, 1600 is still the highest score, but it isn't perfect.....you can miss several questions and still get a 1600.

well, maybe grades and activities make a difference as well. the only experience im speaking from is that my cousin scored a 1390 on her SAT and got into berkeley. strange thing is, she didnt get into UCLA.

also, my other cousin did a 1520 on his SATs, got a 4.0+ GPA and got into Upenn, rice, brown, cornell, etc. etc. BUT, didnt get into stanford.

also, a lot of my friends did 1300s and still got into UCLA. which leads me to believe there are other things involved. since my cousin got rejected from LA while people with lower SATs got in. i guess theres a lot of factors, maybe the major picked etc.

its funny though, my brother about 10 years ago scored only 1290 on his SATs, and got into berkeley and UCLA. i guess competition is a lot tougher nowadays.

I think I only got 1280 when I took it 22 years ago! Good lord, I feel old. :)

I think the environment is different than what it was in the past. My teacher told us not to bother studying for the SATs because it wouldn't help -- also it was supposed to test our preparation for college so I kind of thought that studying for it was "cheating" in a way. The only preparation I did was to take the example test the night before. I was happy enough with the score to not bother retaking it.

Nowadays, it seems like it's completely different. There is so much pressure to do really well on them now.

That score is fine. I got a 1280 and was accepted everywhere I applied.

haha thats a trick question, you should, cause the state average in florda is probably below 1K so your dumbass was a superstar.

I wouldn't advice 'many times'. Colleges are notified of how many attempts you take at the SAT/ACT and frown upon excessive number of tests (>=3 of each is what I was quoted). This is from a USAFA spokesperson, so YMMV but I'd still take it under consideration. Just cuz Joe Shmoe State University isn't the USAFA, doesn't mean they don't have standards.

Dont sweat it...thats more than what I got and I got into all the schools i applied to, including GA Tech......
I went to a CRAPPY high school, I was barely top 10%, and I was part of 1 or 2 lame clubs

My (step)cousin got a 1600 on his SAT and had a perfect GPA, one of the smartest kids in the nation. Stanford took him but offered him nothing; he's footing the bill largely himself.

It's not that bad. I got a 1270 and got into Cornell (where I am now) and UPenn, as well as BU, Northeastern and Virginia Tech. Got in everywhere I applied. Course, I also had teachers who loved me and so gave me great recommendations, and good grades. YMMV. ;)

don't feel too bad. its the top 10% law. there's no room. it penalizes good schools and rewards the bad ones. they should get rid of that crap.

I know some guy with below 1100 SAT get into Yale. He had lots of other things as well, so that helped him out. If you've been doing lots other things with top notch grades, you should have no problems getting into a college you want to.

That reminds me, he should be done this year.
