I heard they made the SAT tests easier in 1996. I, of course, took them in 95 when I was a sophomore and still beat your score. I was a disinterested youth and had like a 2.4 GPA and still cleared the minimum SAT requirements for my GPA for a Cal State University by over 600 points. College is freakin' easy to get into, so don't sweat it.

So 1390 is enough to get into Berkeley or UCLA?

How about UCSD or UCSB?

I don't have much extra curricular.

Anyway, i have a full ride + some to University of Houston, and im only stickin here for a year or two, so whatever.

don't feel too bad. its the top 10% law. there's no room. it penalizes good schools and rewards the bad ones. they should get rid of that crap.

WTF is the top 10% law?

for all of the UCxx schools, applications are due before november. so you had better get them done on time.

90% of students that get accepted to UCSD and UCxx are from california, so its a lot easier to get in if you are a resident there.

the top 10% law requires the university to admit any student who graduates high school in the top 10% of their class. its really screwing a lot of people who should be getting in.

That certainly does sound like BS.

haha thats a trick question, you should, cause the state average in florda is probably below 1K so your dumbass was a superstar.

its only in Texas.

A similar Federal law is being considered, but unsure how it would work.

Its allows for maxiumum diversity into Texas State Schools, and it has some quirks but its been a succesful law.

they will modify it this legislative session to around the 7% - 8% range.

That score gets you into UCLA over here. Given you have the corresponding GPA & curriculars.

Oh, and when applying, don't forget to choose an unpopular major to better your chances into getting in. Later, you can change to the major you originally wanted.

no its hasn't. there was a huge article in the anti-american statesman last sunday explaining why it has failed. in a nutshell: "diversity" hasn't improved, top 10% SAT scores have fallen significantly from 1996 (the last year of affimative action) while non-top 10% scores have risen, and lots of quality students with good extra-curriculars are being passed up for people who have nothing but their top 10% status.

Well, after talking to a few friends (and reading the replies here) I don't feel so bad. I got a 29 on the ACT which is pretty good, my grades are ok. Class rank is the top quarter.

In addition, I'm looking to be a piano performance major in a state uni somewhere in the midwest, so hopefully the grades wont matter quite as much.

Why would you say that? I got a 1380 the first time I took em, and then jumped 60 points to a 1440 the next time I took them. With any luck, you could hit 1400, which looks a lot better than 13-something (of course, this assumes that you want to go to a competitive college where 1330 is only average).

Thats what I got. 740 Math 97 Percentile National, 98 Percentile State; and 580 Verbal 73 Percentile National, and 76 Percentile state. The part that really bothers me is that on math, I only got two wrong on the Arithmetic and Algebraic Reasoning. All the other math was perfect (no omits). Eh, w/e. I'm taking them again in october. I am also taking the ACT's later June. I am definitelgy going to study more for english. Also, my main choices for College are RPI, and MIT. My acedemic curriculum is very good (all AP's except history. That is my weakness. Am better academically in english). One of my teachers has had a few students go to MIT with his recomendation letter. I am also in a lot of extra curricular activities (Am president of Matheletes, and Physics Club). Do you think my chances of getting into MIT are good? I know I could get into RPI, but I would like to go to MIT. Also, I am not one of those people who would go there, and go crazy over grades. I do not need to be number one in the class, like everyone else. :p. Also, my Average (out of 100) is about 90.9ish. It should improve by time applications are due.
