At the recommendation of a member here a while ago, I started looking for a MiniPCI wireless card from a seller. I bought the card with the assurances that XP support; it didn't include XP drivers, and all the links he provided me with don't work -- they give files, but none of them have supported XP at all (one supported 2k; the other simply didn't install any drivers, to my knowledge). I'm not sure, at this point, if the card (a PrismII) doesn't work at all -- it detects, but XP doesn't have drivers to use it with, so I can't figure out, without installing Linux, if it works at all or not.

The cost was only $20, but I sent it via PayPal, and now the seller isn't responding to any of my emails. It's been four days since he responded to anything I've sent; before I bought it, he responded every few hours.

I'm guessing there is little I can do, but I'm still wondering if I should try to take any action yet. I've got his Ebay ID, so I suppose I could leave negative feedback, but I'm wondering if y'all think I've probably been screwed over on this deal first. Wanted to get a consensus. :D

Be prepared for a retalitory eBay feedback if you leave a negative. Try the 2K driver....

I saw that, but several traders here use eBay references as their main references.

No, the 2k drivers don't work. :(

Nope, purchased through a contact from here (someone in the networking forum apparently had a good deal with this guy in the past), not purchased through here.

Prism II has WinXP drivers
The addition of the Windows XP driver set completes Intersil's support for MS operating systems including Windows 2000 Pro, Win NT 4.0, Win 98, and Win CE. Intersil stated that its drivers support all existing generation of its PRISM chip sets including PRISM II, PRISM 2.5, and PRISM 3 - in various form factors including PCMCIA, USB, and mini-PCI.

Good luck finding them though, I just turned this up through a google search. It's dated October 2001, so you surely can find the drivers somewhere

Yeah, but nowhere to download them from. :(

The card, for those who missed it, is an unbranded PrismII.

I assume you have searched the forums and google to see if anyone has gotten the card to work with XP before. I purchased software before that said it did not and could not work on XP. Well never underestimate google. I found a way to add dlls and edit some files to make it work. I will see if I can find some info on it.

I searched and found stuff that said it would work in XP, but nowhere to get the drivers from. Then he gave me this link -- http://home-6.tiscali-business.nl/~t996481/wifi/ -- and said that the ISL3... file would work for drivers. However, I'm still having no luck with it, and I've been through everything I can think of. I see the drivers manually now -- Intersil Prism II -- but they don't work; I'm pretty sure the drivers I see when I check all the drivers are the ones I manually installed that are for Win2k.

I'm surprised windows update doesn't have a driver for it, I mean it's over a year old and has WHQL drivers that are certified to be used with it

As am I. :(

XP doesn't even properly identify the device. It identifies it as a "PCMCIA UNKNOWN_MANUFACTURER."

Anyone know what results I might see if the MiniPCI card was broken? I get a Cannot Start: Code 10 message no matter what I do. :(
