I would like to know as well. I've been using a paypal business account, but I would much rather use an actual CC processor instead. Most I have found have a big set up fee + monthly costs, which would be too much for me right now.

Do you want "real time online processing" or do you want to collect the CC info online and process it later.

the later option is cheaper, avoids monthly gateway fees.
PM me for more info, my wife is well schooled in Credit Card Processing

I believe real time online processing would be better. Dont you think it would be better to discuss it here? That way whoever is interested can see the information instead of flooding you with PM's? :)

get ready to spend some bucks for it

offline processing would be the way to go if your a low volume outfit. If you are a big site or have automated inventory to shipping, then yes, you want an automated credit card procesing system.

with offline processing, you simply just don't ship the item until the card clears, simple as that
offline processing is still done electronically, it's just that you have to manually process the transaction

5.5% commission plus a $0.45 charge on each total sale.

Yikes, that's alot

A real murchant account should charge you 1.99% plus $0.25 per transaction, but there are monthly fees (ranging $25-$50, depending on features) and setup fees are usually $100-$200

It's all a matter of how much volume you're going to do. If you aren't going to do much volume, then you probably better off with no fees and a higher per transaction charge
