Hmm... 3000GT --> 330i

I'm thinking about trading in my 95 3000GT Base w/auto for a new BMW 330i. I'd prefer to get a Titanium Silver w/Black Leather w/Sport & Premium packages w/steptronic but the local dealer I talked to today only had a Titanium Silver w/Grey Leather w/Sport package, moonroof, shiftronic, and heated seats... once I see it in person I can decide if I can live with the grey leather instead of black.

The catch... for a 36 month 15,000/year lease the monthly payment will be $650. $679 w/18,000/year.
I drove a coworkers 325i at work today and was pleasanty surprised. Even though the car only has 184HP it seemed to be better all around compared to my 3000GT. Smoother, quieter, quicker, and probably more comfortable... I'd have to drive it longer than 10 min to know for sure. 😉 I know the 330i would be even better. I'm just trying to decide if it's worth it or not.
My sister & brother in law seem to think I'm crazy if I spend that much on a car... but I just can't make up my mind.

Pros:
Good looks.
Performance.
Comfort.
Warranty.
It's a BMW.
Better gas mileage.

Cons:
Price.
Family members think I'm nuts.

So what do you guys think... obviously it's a better car but is it twice as good? Cause that's about how much more I'll be paying each month for it. 😉

Bah 1st time making a poll... and I screw it up. 😱

seemed quicker? I guess you have the 222hp 300gt... but still, I don't see why the 330i would seem quicker.

Seems silly to me anyway-

The 3000GT is pretty heavy and fairly slow in base model. Plus them German horses in the 330i are pretty quick. 🙂

Yeah I've got the 222HP base model... with an ATX. It ran a blistering 15.8@89.9MPH last year when I took it to Rockingham. :disgust:
I can afford it... it'll be tight but it won't be any worse than it has been for the last 3 years. Now if I get that $5/hour raise I've been waiting for... 😀

330's are just too badass. It just really depends. Also will your insurance change?

i have a good friend who has a 330i. its very nice, but the sticker was around 42k and i think thats a crazy amount of loot for a car.

Insurance will be $188 more every 6 months.
Snik I have the slightly lighter base model. No it can't compete with the VR4 but in my defense I have been told I have the fastest stock na atx 3000GT. 😉

Why bother spending so much on a car? Why don't you get the 325 or something lower (forgot what numbers they have now), and you can live more comfortable with the money are making, without worrying about the raise.

Edit: Although i personally love power at my feet (i have a VW GTI VR6 - 200hp), but your better off living comfortably and getting the better car later.

Making yourself car-poor is a piss-poor idea. If you're renting, why not take that $18k and put it towards a house payment? If you own your house, why not save that $18k, then buy a certified pre-owned 330i with a great warranty in 2 years?

And for the love of all that is holy, get a manual in it. 😛

I just checked KBB.com and the 2004 330ci is $34,000 invoice. Buying it for $32,000 is not a HUGE deal. The monthly payments will still be roughly the same.

Also, not everybody knows the right ppl

But for a BMW, anything below invoice is considered pretty good

Anyway, why don't you consider purchasing instead of leasing? Or look for a used?

He is buying the 2003 model that is why it is heavily discounted. You don't need to know anyone, just go to www.carsdirect.com and you can get it below invoice. They are clearing out the 03 models for the 04 with some changes.

usually there is NO way that u can get a bmw for invoice, because the dealers don't have dealer holdbacks... however right now BMW north america is having record sales, so they are giving incentives to the dealers to sell the remaining cars that they have on the lot... to make way for the new model years

My friend recently bought a bmw 330i. It cost him around $45,000 so is pricey. Het let me drive it and holy crap its a nice ride. If you can afford it, get it!

yes this is true, but try finding the same deal elsewhere... I called a couple of dealers in the bay area, they just dont believe it when I mentioned that I can get 2k under invoice at this place

Dang, for $34K so many choices, 330i can't be a bad choice but before I'd settle I'd have to look at:

Infinity G35 Coupe
Lexus IS300 Sedan
Acura 3.2TL Type S (Or Accord v6 6spd and save some $$$)
Audi A4 Quattro/Turbo or A6
Corvette (OK, not really in that price range, but I'd go drive one just because!)

Of course, I've got less exciting (but better for me) ways to spend my money so I stick to what I've got. You only live once though, so, enjoy it whatever you do.

Not sure I understand this part.
Are you still making payments on the 3000GT?

I have a fascination for BMW too but(this is just me) I would get a late used BMW.
Looks just as new, feel like new and get just the same amount of looks.

If its prestige and a new car that you're looking for, why not a G35 coupe ??
I'd bet you'll get more looks driving around a G35 coupe.
There are alot more BMW on the road so you'll get more looks with a G35 and its cheaper new.
