good move, even though the market is already saturated with awful broken "indie" titles that get abandoned after 6 months.

for every 1 decent GL game there were at least 50 terrible ones. not saying it needs to be AAA only but it needed heavy moderation--killing it works too, though :D

The downside is there were some great FREE indie games. This will squash them.

Will it? I saw that Steam charged for putting a game in Greenlight (not sure how muich).

I didn't think they did, but not sure. I thought the whole point of the change was so they'd have less crap coming in.

The announcement told devs if they'd already bought greenlight spots they could get a refund.

I'm not sure what the point of the change is.

I thought on the new model if you exceed some download amount you get the fee back if your game is free. Maybe not though. It's really not a very large fee, just seems like it is intended to help keep garbage off. Not sure it will actually work though, and we'll see how much it creeps up over the years...

You do. But apparently Greenlight had a fee also.

Googled it, and Greenlight had a one-time fee for an account to post games to Greenlight of $100.

Greenlight was a good design, but poorly implemented. It was like interviewing someone for a job. They may interview great, but the final product is they are a shit employee. There were far too many games on Greenlight that sounded absolutely amazing but in the fine print it turned out those were just projected features and not actually in the game. Hell, every single greenlight game I ever looked at always mentioned they were subject to change and the final product may not be what we saw.

I think the only game I ever voted for Greenlight was a game I had already played after I bought it off the developer's website while it was being created. Unepic was a fantastic game that brought back a lot of old NES and SNES nostalgia and was actually a really good game. The developer also made another game Ghost 1.0 which is pretty fun as well.
