For me not to be able to play the game i've been looking forward to most is fairly lame.

Nvidia really messed up and continue to mess up, why support them?

I also hold no grudges vs Valve because i don't see how this is their fault at all.

Yeah, i think we all feel ya on that one. It's not fair to the gamer/customer to have to pay all the money to play one single game. We are basically paying $500-$1000 depending on what you bought to play one game. Well, 2 games, i still want to play doom 3 as well. But Valve and ID seem to be doing the stupid contract/taking sides crap with nvidia/ati. I bet with doom 3 the nvidia cards will perform better then the ATI cards. It's just fvcking ridiculous to have to spend so much money just to play a game, and yet we all still do it. Owned.

I never liked steam from the beggining. When i first tried it when the steam exe got leaked, i deleted it about 5 min after it was installed. It's a piece of sh1t.

I don't think you got the point of my statement.

I also don't think Valve or ID is 'siding' with companies in terms of crippling one contender and raising the other on a pedastool. I think if people looked at this objectively they would see that Nvidia really is the inferior product here. This is coming from a guy who has owned Nvidia products since the TNT. In the beginning they were really good but i have always felt they go for the 'raw power' approach of higher clock speeds and just pushing the frame rates while ATi went the 'smart' route and found better ways to do things. I was hesitant when buying my last card because i wanted an ATi card but the driver worries pushes me to nvidia once again. Nvidia hardware IS NOT performing to standard in any DX9 games that i know of. This isnt a valve bias, This isnt an ID bias, I don't see any bias at all. The simple truth ( or so i see it ) is that Nvidia cut corners and is paying the price for it, their hardware is not ready to run DX9 games to the level it should be.

btw Hl2 >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Doom 3 :p

I can see why everyone is complaining about Steam also, It's very frustrating and is really ticking me off also. I think everyone needs to realize this is a new thing they are trying that is pretty experimental and needs to keep that in mind. A huge undertaking that has gone awry as of current but I trust Valve to fix it. I don't like the server browser and prefer Gamespy but i see it as having a lot of potential.

yeah definitely. hl2 is making doom 3 look stupid. i still want to at least check it out. but i think hl2 is the better game hands down. and yeah, maybe their is no bias going on, but theres something wrong with nvidia cant even come within 15% of ati. sad.

heh, i thought the industry went nuts when they released the geforce 2 lineup, at $349. their supposed to be regular consumer prices, not professional graphic card prices. i member buying a tnt1 for $179 the week it came out. compared to a $250 monster 3d II 12meg at the time, the tnt mauled it, and was way cheaper. the tnt got beat by a monster II 3d sli connection, but i dont think anyone who wasnt stupid would have bought two monster 3d II's when they were $250 a pop. all i know is, anything over $300 is ridiculous. hell, anything over $250 is pushing it. its like buying a new console every 6-12 months.

I'm wondering if it's dumb for me to spend $200+ just to play one game. For that amount, I can buy a console!

(If not for HL2, I would not be upgrading)

Why should I be pissed? I bought my geforce 4 for $80 from Best Buy to replace my geforce 2, so when the game finally comes out I can just upgrade my current card if I need to. Now, if I had just bought a 5600/5900 then I'd probably be pissed but I never buy the latest and greatest so I don't have to worry about that. There are times where being a tight-wad and buying 1 or 2 steps back can pay off :)

I really doubt they will make it unplayable by the majority of everyone out there. It would kill their sales.

basically what it comes down to is that they are making games that are too advanced for 80% of the systems out there right now... i dont worry too much
