there IS a simple solution to this . . . with PCI-E you'll be able to run TWO video cards, one ATI for HL2 and the GF for DIII . . .

methinks catalysts and forceware wouldn't play nice together.

Separate partitions.

not practical if simple.

I'm not listening/reading anything regarding HL2 and D3 until they're on the shelves, and on my computer.

I really hope that everyone doesn't start hyping up games like S.T.A.L.K.E.R., because then we can only be disappointed in them. IIRC, the original HL just burst onto the scene, took everyone by surprise, and everyone was happy. HL2 has been hyped up too much, and will be a disappointment to almost everyone. Even if it HAD come out in September last year, I'm sure people still would have been disappointed in it due to all the hype it had received.

Confused

There are a couple of pages of benchmarks at X-bit on HL2 & the new cards: X-bit Review.

It looks like ATI wins when it comes to high resolutions with all the eye candy turned on 🙂
Looks to me like the 6800U wins at everything except the last two tests, where the X800XT beats it's by only a meager 2 frames (which is nothing) on the first and 10 frames on the last.

Please remember that ATI released the X800XT ahead of schedule, as the 6800U and X800 Pro are to be pitted together. Once nVidia releases their 6850U, THEN you can compare it to the X800XT. Seems to me that if the 6800U is outperforming the X800XT at 4 out of 6, then sticking with it basically on the other 2, seems as if ATI has the problem in these particular benchies you linked to.

I don't think that there will be any boeards at first with more than one 16x PCI-E slot (the long slot in the BTX layout pics).

Edit: different Window's hardware profiles would be a lot easier than seperate partitions. IMHO
