I just did all 5 timedemo's from the Anandtech review with all the video settings the same and here is what I got:

at_c17_12 = 66.20 FPS
at_canals_08 = 105.25 FPS
at_coast_05 = 104.24 FPS
at_coast_12 = 100.16 FPS
at_prison_05 = 113.12 FPS

they are worse than what the 6800GT gets in the review, even though i have mine overclocked...

here is my system:

Athlon64 3200+ 90nm @ 2.5GHz (250x10)
MSI K8N Neo2 Platnium BIOSv1.37b
2x512MB Corsair XMS XL 3200+ Platnium TwinX 2.5-3-3-7-2T DDR500
Thermalright 948U All-Copper Heatsink
Vantec Stealth 92mm CPU Fan
ThermalTake 480w Purepower W0020+PFC
Gigabyte GeForce 6800GT @ 400/1100

are my results what they should be? and if not, what do i need to change?

Used the same driver as them? Ones they used supposed to increase HL2 performance.

Try setting the memory to 2-3-3-10-1T if possible otherwise use 2T

i got the driver you were talking about
and i actually got a little worse results

also, the lowest i can go at DDR500 speeds is 2.5-3-3-7-2T

shouldnt i be getting better HL2 timedemo results?

What do you mean by all video settings the same? Anandtech's review had quite a few settings.

It may be the cpu difference is the major cause of the score difference. That's probably what it is.
Because the more cpu bound levels your score is lower but they said the prison level is more GPU bound and your score is higher for that level.
Anandtech 112fps yours 113fps. prison_05

But mostly the levels seem cpu bound. THe cpu can't supply the video card what it needs fast enough. So as your processor speed goes up so should your results.

the timedemo command in HL2 is totally borked. i don't know if it was the recently-released patch which caused it, but running the same timedemo more than once gives you wildly varying results... on the order of plus or minus 20-30 fps!

the Athlon64 4000+ runs at 2.4GHz
mine is running at 2.5GHz

could it possibly be the 1MB cache in the 4000+ ???
