HL2 - Those things that jump on your head

I am now at the bottom of the mine shaft, and there are lots of them. With all those zombie things, this is turning into Doom 3 for me. I am getting really sick of it. Is the part I am at the last place I will see them? Or does it just continue on in this repetitve way?

just shoot them. in one form or another they are around since they are used as a weapon by the combine and they inhabit the areas outside of the controlled cities. i know for sure they aren't in the final chapter. 🙂

Well, the only reason I would keep playing is to get to somewhere that the enemy shoots back rather than just coming in endless supplies. Are there guys that shoot back?

Cawchy is the game ridiculously easy for you? I am playing on hard (although second guessing myself on if i surely did put it on hard) and gun shots sometimes only take 1 - 3 life. A direct headcrab hit was like 15 life or something.

The helicopter shot me but the damage was laughable as well.

By no means am I any good or clame to be any good at the entire HL/CS series. HL2 just feels like Doom3 outside. (I hated Doom 3)

yeah. once you get out of the mines the head crabs aren't the main attraction anymore. they are always around, but you'll run into people who shoot back more after that. even though the scenery changes the head crabs are around.

i agree about doom 3. at one point i kept playing it just to finish it because i got bored. i didn't have that problem with half life 2 tho.

Ah darnit, I just got into the mines! Well, I'll have to suck it up for another boreing gameing session

The mines is a relatively short place and I mean really really short.

yeah, the mines is like 10 minutes.

p.s. i hated ravenholm as well. when i finished the game, i thought "wow, the 2nd half is sooo much better than the first"

also, zombies arent scary at all with squadmates. you send the squaddies to die 😉

Seems like people can't handle an enemy that gets in your face. "Waaaaah too many headcrabs, this is just like Doom3, It's too scary... I mean boring... yea boring! I need enemies that stay very far away, so that I can formulate plans on how to kill them for 10 minutes."

i think he's frustrated at the fact that the game, like so many others (even far cry couldn't help it) resorts to inserting monsters as a way to spice up combat. It is a bit annoying, though not as ridiculous as Doom3.

FYI, OP, I'm way past ravenholm and yes the crabs are still here, although not in vast numbers.

People have been 'inserting monsters' since moria and rogue. It is the cornerstone of gaming. The only difference is that people these days cannot handle enemies that don't stay back and fire from a distance. If an enemy isn't standing around talking to his buddies, ala FC, then people freak out and can't handle the game anymore.

Funny, Ravenholm was my favorite level(so far).
I hated the Nova Prospect levels though, I only borrowed the game from a friend, and eventually stopped playing at NP cause I got bored.

Now he's done, and I've borrowed the game again, unfortunately I forgot to save my savegames, so I had to play it all over again, but at least I'm past Nova now 🙂

Hmm, what I didn't like so much about HL-2 was that you couldn't aim that well with the rifles, even in short bursts. The first pistol was my favorite weapon for a very long time since you could use it for headshots. First with the monsters and the heavy troopers it lost its punch.

Gameplaywise I still think Far Cry and Soldier of Fortune II was better, maybe I'm just a sucker for headshots 😛

THe magnum always worked for me. One shot kills to the head. Pistol took 3-5 shots depending on difficulty. For the normal combine soldiers that is.

Anyone who refers to these enemies as the "things that jump on your head" should be stripped of all gaming priveleges and flogged. Know you roots.

Those "things that jump on your head" are part of the enemies in HL2. Get used to them and LEARN how to defeat them (try "practice" - killing them with different weapons . . . . even the gravity gun can be very useful; they are pretty easy to defeat - really! . . . personally, i found the Stalkers a bit more annoying)😛

HL2 is NOT "boring" like Doom iii. 😛
