By the way, ravenholm was great. What's up with that father? I'm not sure what he was supposed to mean. I mean, he sounded satanic, to an extent, when he was wielding his shotgun in the middle of those flames. What the hell's that got to do with anything? I just felt that level was a huge change of pace.
It just seemed so out of place, like an old-fashioned nighttime zombie/werewolf stuck in the middle of this bright, daytime, orwellian-themed game.
I also like how Valve implemented the 'light at the end of the tunnel" motif when you exit the mineshaft from Ravenholm. But the the music kicks in and you sense something wrong. I'm not sure if what I felt was what Valve wanted me to feel (perhaps they meant it for the danger, as in the blue aiming lasers), but I sort of felt, in the trainyard, with those familiar looking apartment buildings and railroad tracks, "Oh shit! WTF, isn't this where I started?"
Is this a good thing? I don't know.
