HL2 Steam Patch today did you get it???

I have been waiting for the patch that is supposed to fix the stuttering problem to download via steam which they say you should get just exiting steam and getting back in but nothing downloads. Have you gotten it???

Also, is there anyway to make your weapon site a different color or larger or something as you lose it when shooting at things with the same color background, etc.

I think you got it you just didn't know...the update is very small
The way to tell you got it is load up HL2 then go into the console and can access the cvar mat_forcemanagedtextureintohardware
doesn't matter what it's set to, but if it exists, then you got the update

I got it. It didn't really change much for me, but I didn't have the problem in the first place, so I guess that stands to reason. I still get the occasional skip, but I think it's due to my lower end system:

AMD 1900+, GF4 Ti4400, 512 PC2100

That said, the game still runs like a champ. Far better than I was expecting it to at the settings I use. I've finished it once, and now I refuse to touch it again until late December when my new rig is done, so I can crank up all the pretty.

I had the problems and found no changed. Valve seems to think it's because I'm running at settings that are too agressive, but I'm sitting around 30+ FPS most of the time.

I got the update as well and I still have sound stuttering problems. I've tried lowering visual settings, sound quality, basically everything I can and I still get them. Have an asus K8NE-Deluxe with an XP @ 2.3 ghz with a GeForce 4 TI4600 and Gig of ram. I rarely have a stuttering problem in CS:Source but in Half-Life 2 it's all over the place. Hope they figure out the problem soon.

i definitely got the update . . . . i heard about it in GH this am . . . since i am on dial-up, steam starts OFFline . . . so when i reconnected it took about 20 minutes.

The sound stuttering is still there . . . . but LESS . . . .

. . . AND . . .

. . . . i was able to raise my rez from 10x7 to 11x8 with no apparent penalty in FPS (running a 'stock' 9800xt/P4@3.31Ghz/1GB PC3500) . . . . everything else MAXed Hi, reflections ALL, 2xAA & 8xAF. 🙂

Someone want to let me know how to tell if I got the update. Still waiting on a clarification of how to tell.

IF you connected to Steam online (since this AM) . . . . you already have it (if you have broadband, you wouldn't likely notice it since it is so fast; i knew since my dial-up took ~20 minutes).

it's automatic 😉

I thought the patch just added a cvar, and wouldnt change any amount of the stuttering unless you changed the value of the cvar?
mat_forcehardwaretexture or something.

/probably wrong

This patch destroyed my performance.

Either that, or I now have the stuttering problems. Fvcking valve can't code for sh|t, no wonder 6 years.

VIAN, see the thread I linked to for how to disable the new "feature" the patch came with. You'll need to add it to the HL2 startup options (i.e. desktop shortcut) because if you try enabling it in-game, it may not take effect.

right click the Half-Life 2 entry on the "play games" menu of Steam... there is an option called "launch options", you can put command line options there and it should take effect whenever you double-click that menu entry to start the game... or do the "create shortcut" then you have a desktop shortcut you can add commandline arguments there as well

Just to clarify - according to the hl2 guide at tweakguides putting command line options in via the Steam launcher will have them apply whichever way you launch HL2, whereas if you put them in the shortcut they will only apply when you run HL2 through that shortcut.

thanks, didn't know that.

i always launch from the shortcut anyways. actually i have multiple shortcuts set up right now... HL2 with patch, HL2 without patch, etc.
