Other game developers could easily use this without getting caught. You just study the code/ideas and write your own using those ideas. How often does code get leaked for major games? I have the source to a couple major games but would never leak them out :p

But you're not producing any high-profile games, either.

i don't think you understand.. i used to be a developer at a high-profile game company

you think another company would be as underhanded to use valves source code, let alone find and download it?

Sure, why not? The stuff in there is golden; shading, sound, physics, etc. You obviously wouldn't want to take the code line by line, but the ideas expressed by the code are extremely valuable.

I play minesweeper all the time, thanks for the memories! :D

Wow I wish I worked on the original Minesweeper at Microsoft... I can't imagine all the money I'd have now from all the stock options.
*day-dreaming*

Well, if I were to have downloaded this and looked at it before I deleted it, I would say it's absolutely real. ;)

Ugh, so sad, I hope they find who did this.

It's all over the web. My bet at least a 4 month delay to retool parts of it.

OMG this is horrible.

Cheaters will prosper like there's no tomorrow.

The only good side I can see is someone doing a linux port real quick...

I'm still gonna pay for it though.

They should get the FBI involved too. Computer hacking, possibly causing millions of dollars of costs (delayed release, loss of tech). The should hunt this prick down hard and throw him in the slammer with Bubba and his HIV infected dick.

Bubba tested negative, it was a lab error. He thanks you for the hallmarks, though.

Actually, yes, by the looks of it, their site has existed for at least a few months.

PS I have a hard time believing this would nessisitate jail time; I just don't see it having a very large financial impact(you and I are still going to buy the game, and no reputible company would use the illegal source over that of licenced source)

That would be cool if monkey rape was a judicial option. I'd pay to see it even!

Er, why would any company use the purchased code? Spend a million bucks to license a game engine that has cheaters in multi-player out the wazoo? Don't think so.

More like 160 MB (168,598,580 bytes) uncompressed. Very interesting reading this source code. ;)
