But what's more important, graphics or gameplay?

The graphics look plenty good to me. Sounds like the gameplay will be much better than Doom 3's, and the included multiplayer stuff like CSS should beat the crap out of Doom3's multi. Don't get me wrong though, Doom3 was good.

Thats so 90s, now any self respectiong gamer would drop $400 to $500 on a vid card so they dont have to turn all the eye candy off

I'm really looking forward to HL2. Doom3 kinda sucked in my opinion. It was just too dark too often.

How do you all think it will run on a
CPU Type
AMD Athlon XP-A, 2100 MHz (12.5 x 168) 2800+

Display
Video Adapter NVIDIA GeForce4 Ti 4200 (128 MB)

What if I upgrade my video card?
Anything for ~$200 that will get me a decent frame rate on HL2?

A 9800 Pro should do well for that price.

CS: Source is running fine on my 2100mhz (200x10.5) Barton with a softmodded 9500 running at 300/300 (a litte bit under 9700 pro speed). I rarely dip under 60fps, never under 30, and thats at 1024x768 16xAF 6xAA.

I imagine HL2 will be a litte more graphically intensive since the CPU will be controlling all on screen characters and the environments will probbably be larger, but I assume I should be able to play at the same resolution, maybe 8xAF 2xAA.

Fixed.

Looks like the game play is very good, as far as graphics go, it looks like Doom3 has the edge.

i definatly will buy HL2 because the gameplay/physics look top-notch !

But the graphics itself look VERY "two years ago"....

If bandwidth's a problem, here's another mirror with 3 huge pipes to the 'net and no bandwidth limits.

EDIT: I've also created an easy-to-read PDF of the scans.

gf4 isn;t going to cut it if you;re maxing bells whistles (which you should be).

i have the same card and it ran SLOW (15fps) in max payne2 w/max details on. so no way will it cut it in hl2.

i'm waiting till bestbuy's annual black friday special in nov to get the best bang for the buck video card. (last year it was the 9600 for $89.)

what is the release date of hl2?
