HL2, HL2 EP1, HL2 EP2, HL2 Lost Coast beta now in Steam Linux

It seems Valve is taking Linux gaming seriously, sort of. I guess it's progress even though the game is nine years old now.

As a Linux user this doesn't excited me. What does excite is Valve's love of OpenGL. I wonder if they'll make a pure OpenGL graphics engine eventually or would they still use their OpenGL wrapper that still outperforms DirectX.

Is the general concensus that HL2: EP3 is the same as HL3? (assuming one comes out)

I've heard it both ways, some are still holding out hope they will continue the story, other rumors are that they are dumping HL2 completely, building a new game engine and releasing it as HL3.

Either way, I'm not getting my hopes up, and I refuse to pay the full price at release. If I've waited this many years, I can wait another 1 to get it on a steam bargain sale.

I read somewhere from Gabe or someone high up at Valve that they want every HL game to be a major breakthrough.

HL1 shook up everything, so did HL2 with world's first true free physics engine and amazing story.

They said something like they're still waiting for the PCs to catch up so the game will be both amazing and beautiful. Otherwise it'll just be another pretty yet mediocre Crysis/CoD clone.

Lol...While they are waiting for the PC to catch up for HL3, would it be to much to ask them to fulfill their promise to deliver episodic releases for HL2? You know, maybe finish the story they started?

This franchise is a joke.

Valve no longer needs to or has the desire to make games. Why would they? Making games is challenging. Selling them is easy.
You do know that valve has put out some sort of content almost every year since they released the original half-life, right?

I'm calling it:

Half-Life 3 will be released on the same day that the Steam Box goes live. It may even be included.

What better way to convince a bunch of console gamers to purchase a Linux-based system with no games on it? Assuming that the console is affordable, I don't think it's crazy to assume that this could very well bring a slew of new developers to a market that's largely been untouched. A market that Google is already capitalizing on.
