If you have the original retail version can you still download the game if you lose your cds or something? I'm just wondering...

Also if you buy one of those bronze coupons or w/e how does that work can you download the game however many times you want? It includes SP right?

Friend is thinking whether to buy a cdkey on Ebay or just buy the retail thing...

I installed it on 2 PCs. The first, from the installation discs. It took forever to decrypt the files. The second PC, IIRC, I installed Steam, and then used that (with the Steam account created for the first machine) to DL the HL2 game files.

Yes, I believe Single Player will work as long you have a steam account with a valid HL2 key. I've never tried CS:Source, I don't know if those requirements are more stringent.

Once you haave registered the HL2 CD with a steam account you can download it on as many damn PC's as you want. You can even play Multiplayer on different server on the internet with one CD key. As long as they are different servers. The same goes for CSS.

You can also have as many people as you want on your own LAN with that same CD key.

You will just have to log into steam a few tiems on the different PC's.

Steam is wierd, I was installing it on 2 computers in my room and was able to log on with my account on all of the, I even started a dedicated server and played against myself. I walked back and fourth between computers.

Good info to know. I just ordered it last week and received it in the mail today. It is soo awesome!! I really wanted to play Deathmatch, so I started off with that. I think I'll start the single player tomorrow. I just wanted to get a feel for it before I actually started playing single player.

wild. i didn't realise you could use the same wonid at the same time as long as you were on different servers. i have no need to ever use that information, but it's always nice to learn something new.... now if only i could find the right way to set up those darn turrets in the prison sequence to survive. dagnabit!

I played through a couple of times on easy ... and it was too easy. So I tried normal. And now I'm stuck. Granted, I only died twice trying that sequence, but it pissed me off enough for me to take a break from the game.

yeah its really not that useful unless you have 2 PC's in your house and somone else wants to play... But you can't be on the same server so its pretty pointless. The good part is that if you ever get a LAN party going and a bunch of PC's etc they all don't NEED to have the game.

You can always just make a LAN game and add bots for a little bit of fun.
