HL2 EP2 trailer

You are leaving City 17 on a train just as the citadel finally blows up. The blast wave catches up to your train and it's lights out.

I might have cared 8 months ago, when the game was originally supposed to come out before they delayed it to work on the console ports of the game.

Seriously. This episodic idea just failed miserably.

I'm still looking forward to playing it, but there's a certain bad taste about it.

You just explained my whole entire series of thoughts on HL2:E2 with one sentence.

I'll keep an open mind. The trailer looks very good at least. Really though, I am looking forward to TF2, which will come with it.

Really, even though they add modules and stuff with each episode, it's clear that the engine is ridiculously old and showing it's age.

Compared to? I think it still looks brilliant.

Play Oblivion, FEAR, CoH, Supreme Commander and some of the newer games that will be remade for DX 10. Then compare it to the Source engine. There's a huge difference.

No there isnt. The only thing those engines can do that source can't is dynamic lighting which is being implemented in HL2 EP2. Source still looks great AND performs great on all types of hardware.. something Oblivion, FEAR, and SC have problems doing.

oh excellent. it picks up RIGHT where it left off!

The graphics look good still, I've always liked the source engine style, but didn't HL2 come out in 2004? HL3 should be out by now, and the constant promise-delay stuff is really annoying, and that goes for all devs who pull this bs

Yea I'm sorry, waiting almost 2 years for basically 3-5 hours tops of gameplay just to wait again for E3 to come out??? This is horribly implemented. It would have been awesome, 1 a year but hell we should be used to it, Valve is never on track.

Nonono, I meant that is how Episode 1 ended. I have no idea how Episode 2 begins. Based on what I've seen from videos it looks like you're going to be trekking through the woods after your train gets messed up.

with so many other more interesting titles coming out...no big rush on this one...something to play between release...I think though before I play it I may play through EP1 just to refresh the memory.

Still looking forward to this big time. It is ridiculous how long it is taking them, but from past Valve products, I know they won't disappoint.

I too had thought episodes were a bad idea for a number of reasons. And I still think so, but from a graphics standpoint, maybe not. Sure they are using an engine from 2004 against upcoming games like Crysis and UT3? But even now, Source-based games are damn near the most impressive games I can currently play. Sure Oblivion or CoH can look better, but those games can't run anywhere near the completely maxed details, AA/AF, and resolution as Source. So assuming they get some good lighting and shadows in Ep2, I think that graphically, it will be just as good as upcoming games. Plus, Ep3 will improve on it, and Ep2 is to have very good multicore support.

Still, it sucks that some of this delay is likely to them wanting to release on 360 and PS3 as well.

Is the HL2 Black Box cancelled now?? I want to be able to get Ep2/TF2/Portal, but also Ep1, for cheap. IIRC, Black Box was exactly that for like an estimated $30, but I read it was cancelled.

I think that out of all the games coming out this year still, I will probably only be able to buy a couple. That will have to be Crysis and HL2 Ep2 as of now. It is tough competition when there is CoD4, UT3, Bioshock, Assassins Creed, Frontlines, ET-QW, and like 5 more that look awesome.

Nah, it was to be $40 and just Ep2/TF2/Portal, no Ep1. But yeah, they canceled that.

Looks like a good game. Though I agree the whole episode plan flopped. In all honesty I forgot they were still making it.

As for the graphics...yeah it's a tad dated. So was STALKERS, but STALKER was bugged to hell and their dynamic lighting slowed my 7800GT to a crawl. The engine compliments the game very nicely .

I agree. Source looks great, and runs pretty damn well. I also think it has better physics than Oblivion and FEAR.

Really been waiting a while for this, the forest fight looks especially fun.

Haven't played the others, but Half-Life 2 beats the hell out of FEAR graphically. Sure, FEAR has fancier shadows, but it also has some of the most dull level design ever created. Cinderblock worship is ugly.

Yes the Source engine may be somewhat dated, as in it doesn't have all the bells and whistles that games, such as Crysis and the like have, but as someone else already stated, it runs beautifully on almost anything while still looking quite good. Not to mention I've always enjoyed the gameplay that they put together. Consider it bought for me.

I gave up on this series after playing the original HL2. I'm gaining a new respect for the graphics engine though, in light of all the bloatware games we've been getting recently. It definitely looks quite dated and wasn't very good even at its time, but at this point I would prefer that to the kind of framerates seen in many modern games, even on high end cards.

HL2 was equally bad in that respect, if not worse. Scores of run down buildings, devoid of any objects and each looking just like the previous one, aren't any better.
