So I guess now we can count the days till Doom 3 is released, and laugh at all the ATI owners cause their card doesn't perform as well in Doom 3 😉
You can laugh all you want but I'm pretty happy with my flashed 9800 pro running current games.

As far as ATI performing poorly in Doom3, how much you want to bet there will be another generation of video cards out before both Doom3 and HalfLife2 are released?

How does stolen code affect the release date? I'm calling BS on this. I bet it simply wasn't going to be ready in time.

Every hidden weapon in single player and the intire netcode for Steam was included in the copied material, everything from password hacking to total cheats and semi walkthroughs could be derived from it.

I'd like to extend a big "bwahahahahah" to all the people who bought an expensive video card for a game which isn't released yet.

That was a joke... cause of all the ATI fanboys laughing about the FX5900 Ultra not performing in HL2... and now they won't be able to see their beloved 9800 Pro run HL2 until April when it will be obsolete anyway.

I find it really amusing how all the nVidia Fanboyz jump on this event, and act just exactly the same as the ATi Fanboyz. You guys verge on being really daft - All that effort put into trying to make other people feel bad.... Please grow up.

Why don't you just forget trying to align yourself to one Manufacturer, and just support whichever card is the fastest at the time?

And now this. According to several sites, there is a beta or prerelease version out, so it MAY have been a good deal more than 1/3 the code. God damn, this sucks. People can be such assholes. Valve has been working on this game for, what, 5 years, and this is the thanks they get??? WTF. I would love to meat one of these punk ass "hackers" face to face :|.

Looks like they also stole the Beta version of the game.
Go Here for screenies.

Originally the source code leaked in a 32meg package last week. The leak spelt the beginning of an investigation into how this could have happened. The result? A flurry of forums across the internet all buzzing about the leak of code to one of the most anticipated games of all time. Most believe the leak of source code is a bad thing and yet the leak of a beta copy of the game isn't.

Today the Half Life 2 Beta leaked across the world onto the internet via IRC channels. The release by "anon" shows it's obvious that the hackers who managed to sucessfully steal source code of the game itself also stole the game itself and who knows what else.

Today there are reports that Half Life 2 has been put back to 2004 due to the source code leaks, although these reports haven't been officially denied by Valve or confirmed. This latest leak of the game itself is sure to hit Valve hard.

You can call me a fanboy if you want... although the popular term as of late has been nVidiot. But anyway... I was about to buy a 9800 non-pro, but ATI pulled them from retailer's shelves... so I went to the next best card in that price range, a FX5900 for $250 shipped.

Exactly. Let's all go jump on the Nvidia bandwagon now, jeesh. I thought this thread was about Half Life 2. I guess it's really about insecurity.

Uh,,,does UT2004 and Deus EX 2 have confirmed release dates? I know Max Payne is for sure coming out in the next 7 days, and Call of Duty..but not sure about those other two.

Half-Life 2 Delay III:
More sources that should be in-th-know, but want to be off-the-record, piped up about HL2 and it being delayed again.

In the mean time, we still believe the game is on track to ship for the Christmas season.

Well Ho! Ho! Ho! And a bottle of rum...

^ you sir, are a moron.

I think its a conspiracy, rumors were already floating around of a 2004 delay weeks before the news of the source code being stolen. Gabe probably put it on KaZaa to buy him sometime.
Look who's talking.

What's with the schadenfreude? Did ATi or Valve insult or harm you at some point?

<Rollo vaguely remembers telling people it doesn't make sense to buy equipment for unreleased games and getting laughed at>

Intellectual property theft is no joke. I don't personally understand why this would affect the release date though- most production environments I'm familiar with have these newfangled "tape backups" or "offsite backups" they use to protect themselves from loss of work. Maybe they have to re-do something so the hacked version can't play online with the retail version?

BTW- as far as people jumping on this and saying "LOL ATI fans" goes, maybe they wouldn't if you ATI fans hadn't stuffed this game down every nVidia owners throat every single day since Gaber Day as reason their card is now suddenly worthless and your cards superior. When you add to that Anand says the Det 52s give a huge boost in performance and fix many IQ issues (to the point where Anand said they look the same), the nVidia faithful had a pretty good day.

Yes, the main concern is that Valve will have to redo some Steam and MP code to counter the inevitable MP hacks, now made insanely easy with the source code.

Edit: No, Rollo, they wouldn't jump on this if they were mature, which quite a few people posting on online BBS' aren't.

That whole argument is gonna go back and forth. When ATI supporters bounced back, NVidia supporters were defensive, and the same goes now.

^
I didn't say it was right they should jump on it, I said I understand it given the abuse they've taken in regard to this game. I'm guessing you've seen what I'm talking about Pete, and not everyone has your restraint. (although it's an admirable trait)

Me too!

This is too funny! I would imagine there are alot of people who spent $$$ on their shiney knew ATI video cards for this game, only to have it delayed for more than half a year!

Those people who recommened waiting until AFTER the game was out to buy a video card were the wisest! 😉 😉 😉

Yep, Nvidia is breathing a HUGE sigh of relief now... they have 6 more months to pull a rabbit out of their hats!

Didn't Valve have several copies of the code as backup? If so, why not?
I back up my naked girl pictures. Couldn't they back up the HL code?

The code wasn't stolen, as in Valve no longer has a copy of it. It's just that hacked versions can be made very easily with the source code...
