Hitting Delete wont enter BIOS?

Hey all, just bought a new Gigabyte 970A UD3 mobo, been setting it up but the strangest thing is i can't enter the bios when i hit "delete". hitting "F12" gets me to the boot screen, same with hitting other keys during the post at the beginning, but hitting del just will, not, get me into bios. Its like it ignores that i hit compeltely. Keyboard is USB and works fine with all my previous systems, so doubt that's it? The only way to enter the bios is to currently reset the CMOS, then im forced in. It doesnt matter if i shutdown and do a hardboot, push the reset button, tap once or repeatedly or hold the del key down, it just wont enter the bios. I used both del keys (the one on num pad & the main one), still a no go. instead i get the Win7 boot manager screen wherein it asks me if i want to start memory diagnostics or just run Win 7 normally (guess if i push del after the POST screen that comes up). i updated the BIOS to the latest version and still a no go.

Again, my (USB) keyboard has always worked fine, and i can press f12 and get the boot menu no prob, but just can't enter the bios. obviously this is not a choice for an avid overclocker like me as i usually enter and leave a dozen times a session.

Anyone experienced something like this? is it a faulty mobo or am i doing something wrong? Thanks in advance.

I have a buddy that had the same problem with his Dell laptop. I couldn't get into the BIOS to save my life even when pressing the proper key. I called Dell for him and they told me it must be a corrupt BIOS causing the problem. Dell wanted him to send back the laptop and issue him another one which he did.

You might as well just go ahead and do and RMA on the motherboard it if you just bought it. No use trying to fix faulty equipment if you just got it. Alternatively, you could try to flash it with the lastest BIOS version for that particular board and see if that overwrite will fix the problem.

Forgive me since I don't know about this board or chipset but most of the boards that I have worked on of late allow you to enter the Bios by hitting F4 or F8 but this maybe only on Intel chipsets. What I am saying is that maybe it is another F key for this board.

Try the F2 key? That's what I use to get to bios on my ASrock motherboard.

I just flip the keyboard upside-down and mash it into the desk until I get a key stuck error.

Hi,

My old laptop did that. Try plugging in a usb drive or putting a disc in the drive. That made it work for me.

How old is this keyboard ? Maybe the delete key is broken ..

on Awardbios pressing delete enters the Bios, it says so clearly on the loading screen and all my Awardbios mobos had the same thing, so its not another key.

flashed the bios to 2 different versions, get the same problem.

putting CD in the drive or usb didnt fix the problem.

guess time to go back to the store.

EDIT: strange, the del key on my numpad gets into bios, but the other del key doesnt. I never had a problem with the other one, i can confirm it DOES indeed work. Is this just a quirky mobo and i should return it to avoid future problems?

EDIT 2: *sigh* even with the delete on the numpad, it "usually" enters bios. Sometimes it doesnt. seems like a faulty mobo yea? Will they accept a return just based on that?

well, the keyboard works fine in everything else and worked fine with my old build. i just upgraded the mobo yesterday, so it'd be a huge coincidence if it was all of a sudden that one key on my keyboard.

i had a similar issue with my current system ( a little old now), but the issue appeared to be that the USB keyboard was not being powered when you needed to press the del key. Got a PS2 keyboard, got in fine, then in the options found a setting called something like "allow USB keyboards" turned it on and the problem went away.

yes, "allow USB Legacy keyboards" is the option, i have that enabled. The thing is the other POST options work fine with the keyboard, i.e. "F12" to set boot order, "end" to enter Flash program, they both do so once pressed. but "del" is finicky. like i said only the numpad "del" key works and sometimes it doesnt work.

i dont get it, never had this problem before. I reset the CMOS numerous times, updated the BIOS twice (albeit the problem existed out the box with the original BIOS, so its not a BIOS version issue).

Can you use the delete key to delete text ?

Try another USB port(s) if you haven't already. Other than that I'd say try another keyboard.

i had the exact same problem with the board in signature when i first built it wedesday. i tried another port and it worked. gigabyte is notorious for USB issues unfortunately :$
