Hitting 265 FSB wall

Hi,

OCing a P4 2.4C (Costa Rica) with a P4P800 motherboard and hitting the wall after 265 MHz FSB. Running mem at 5:4, also tried with 3:2. Timings are relaxed.

Using DDR400 RAM with Winbond CH-5 chips.

Read in some forums that the CH-5 chips don't go very well with 865PE based board - can the memory be the culprit? Don't have any other DDR400 at hand to test out either. Any with similar probs?

 
Unless there is a bug with the 3:2 ratio then at 265fsb those pc3200 stciks are only running 354mhz or something that most pc2700 could do...

Do you have latest Bios???

What is your power supply and please list your vcore and +12v idle and under load....

What are your temps?? CPU and Sytem at idle and under load...


one thing to do is run memtest86 and avoid entering windows right now and testing the ram at those different dividers and different fsb to find where and if errors appear...

What is the "wall" you are hitting?? Failing prime95 or not even booting into windows???

Well, the overclocking has to end somewhere... there was a thread like this not too long ago... he asked why he couldn't go higher... the simple answer is because it can't. Overclocking is a science to an extent, but the ability of the hardware to be overclocked is often the luck of the draw. Some parts are better than others... but there are exceptions to every rule. Besides... 265 FSB is nothing to scoff at.

Very well said,he should run it at 3ghz & be happy.

After all he paid for 2.4ghz & anything over that is a bonus.
 
Well said - I've hit 3 Ghz and should be happy!

BIOS I'm using is right now is 1009; some say 1008.004 is best for P4P800.

I'll have to check my +12V rating. Temps are nice- 33 C idle and 45 C under full load.

Wall is I don't even get a POST! I suspect the CPU or the Northbridge. Maybe this baby won't go higher...

Well 3.12 is healthy and pretty happy with it. I'll try to get hold of a Malay package and see what happens.

 
What vcore are you running and have tried????

Check the memory in memtest....Usualy memory settings result in most of my no post bootups...
