Oh god...I didn't wanna get into this...but here we go again. Now, I'm going to be careful about this since if I present raw data about Jews in America next to raw data about African Americans, somehow that makes me a racist
😕
Look, I have nothing against black people. I'm totally against any person that puts them down as a group but at the same time, I think putting them on a pedestal is just as bad.
Nothing I say is intended to apply to 100% of situations but I don't think you can argue that the things I say play a pretty big role...
<<
i have no idea what that means...if you're implying that jews work harder, that comment shows gross neglect for what really happens... oh come on, did jews ever really have it as bad as black people in america? >>
When waves of immigrants come here, they come here poor...it's just the thing that immigrants do. Once here, they invariably go through a little cycle:
Poor in urban areas =>
Entrepreneurs open up convenience stores, groceries, salons, wig stores, etc. =>
Work wicked hard =>
Can afford to send kids to college =>
Next generation attend Ivy League schools, =>
Move to suburbs, buy German cars or SUV's
When you're a recent immigrant, entrepreneurship is the only way out. Limited English and credentials from another country means a company won't hire you and it's hard to get enough credit to do any huge investing...Black author Shelley Green argues that black activists should shift their focus from civil rights to entrepreneurship within the community because black entrepreneurship has been historically low.
Slavery ended over 100 years ago. Racist laws began to go away 50 years ago and were knocked out with extreme prejudice in the 60s. In the recent past, blacks were officially given preferential treatment in college admissions and job hirings and now the practice is done behind the scenes, if only to avoid law suits.
So what's the newest fight?
Recent immigrants first land in the inner city among Blacks. In time, they get out and they're perceived as having gone up the social ladder by stepping on blacks. This makes for tension...
Look around the country -- the Black-Korean conflict in LA, the Black-Chinese conflict in New York, the Black-Pakistani conflict in Cleveland...
<<
I say black people instead of african american because I imagine dark skinned hispanics or from teh caribbean are discriminated upon soley upon skin color. >>
Maybe...but in my previous sentence, I didn't mention the nuttiest one. Miami has given rise to the Black-Black conflict where the second Black is Jamaicans and other Carribeans of African descent...They're on their way up and out and Blacks are accusing them of sticking to their own, price-gouging, not giving back to the community, etc.
<<
Did jews ever have to ride on the back of a bus? did jews ever get subjected to slavery in the US? who was a bigger target for the KKK, the jews or the blacks? >>
Answered in a second -- No -- The blacks were a million times more visible in the south during reconstruction when the KKK first came about. The big Jewish communities were in New England, New York and the midwest, with big centers in Chicago, Cincinnati, Indianapolis and St. Paul.
<<
do people ever lock their doors in a car when a jew walks by? >>
From
MSNBC - "683 of every 100,000 white men were behind bars, compared to 4,777 of every 100,000 black men and 1,715 of every 100,000 Hispanic men. That translated to 12 percent of all black males in their 20s and early 30s serving time last year."
Sorry to say it...but maybe those people are just playing the percentages
🙁
<<
do people avoid eye contact with jews? >>
Not that I know of. Of course, I also don't notice that with blacks...
<<
are jews or blacks mroe likely to be stereotyped that sports is their only way out? >>
The answer is blacks as given by...blacks! Damn, there was an African American author I read a few years back but I can't recall his name (he was married to a white woman if that's any help) who talked about this a lot...Anyhow, what he said was that sentiment within the African American community looks down on other ways to move up besides sports and entertainment. People who try to get educated, try to move away from the inner city are labeled as "Trying to act, not black."
<<
do you really believe that blacks are genetically lazy and jews are genetically hard working? do you believe something such as skin color implies work ethic? >>
I don't but thanks for asking
😉 It's a self-fulfilling prophecy of sorts...a set of values that their own society places on them that teaches that success and "keeping it real" are mutually exclusive...
<<
its black history month, show some respect. >>
I wasn't aware that I had shown any disrespect...
BTW, it's also Arab-Muslim awareness week. Show some respect by not giving so disproportionately large an amount of whining on behalf of the black community.
