what did you hope to accomplish with your reposting of an associated press article? reaction right? well my reaction was as stated... there really isn't much to say regarding an old lady's opinion of hitler. its pretty dry in my opinion.

well, you see there's a funny double standard in America, one minority can use slurs against people of his race and other races and get away with it as long as he's a minority, but a white person can't.
 
my opinion of jews

1) they are genetically equivalent to everyone else hence its hard to make deterministic statements
2) jews in israel are are led by a hostile/militant man
3) they are more successful economically in the US
4) if i looked at a white person, I could not tell if he was a jew or not...but it really doesn't matter to me because of opinion #1.
5) because jews are usually white, they are subject to less discrimiation than people of color in the US currently
 
big deal if a white person can't use ethnic slurs ... is that really a privelege?!? does it somehow limit a white person's vocabulary or civil right?

edit: I'm chinese, and a friend of mine refers to me as "charlie" ... affectionately ofcourse...as long as a slur wasn't used to demean me in tone or intent, I'm comfortable with it personally...it's just a joke because I know he was joking ... if met an italian person and called him dago... the meaning would be unclear and therefore inappropriate ...

And if, for example, I thought that Christians complained too much, am I free to say that?
 
of course, genetically, humans and chimps are like 99.5% the same. heck, we're like 90% the same as dogs.
 
you could say that, but I wouldn't agree with you that christians complain too much ... while people in general complain...I'm speaking in terms of ethnic groups complaining regarding "how bad they have it" ... i don't thk anyone in the US thinks that christians as a whole complain about how hard it is to be a christian in the US ...

my first opinion is important because not everyone agrees with it...bomberman said something above about how he felt that jews inherently work harder than blacks ...

If the racial double-standards ended with a social limitation on racial slurs, no one (not even AaronP) would care. But the racial double standards are themselves an institution in our current society. White racism is the orthodox assumption of why other minorities do so poorly. Every achievement gap (and even terms like 'achievement gap') are presumed to result from a hidden and institutional white racism. No individual is necessarily a racist, but whites on the whole are assumed to be racists.

Jews are immune from such accusations. They are the world's most innocent people, never deserving any disrespect or distruct. Blacks, likewise, are also immune from the racist label. Look at your own reaction when AaronP and I indicated that Jessie Jackson is no more respectable than the KKK (an indictment he bought with his actions).

In fact, minorities in this country regularly organize into advocacy groups for their own race without shame. Yet every white organization is "evil" and "ignorant". There is the Fraternal Order of Police and there is the Black Fraternal Order of Police. There are Miss America Pageants, and Black Miss America Pageants. There is the ACLU and there is the Jewish Defense League.

White people are socially restricted to be the background matrix in which minorities congregate into racial cells.
 
i'm lumping large groups together because that's what we were talking about. i see what you are saying...you're trying to say that I'm generalizing when I say that jews complain alot ... random joe jew down the street might not complain at all, and it would be unfair of me to assume that he complained all the time about anti-semitiscim. what I'm trying to say is that jews as a interest group tend to be more vocal about their history than other groups who have been discriminated in the past.

I don't thk people are that different genetically except for certain things that are really small. assuming that "jews are cheaper" or "chinese people are good at math" or "white people are more civilized" or "immigrants are dirty people" are all sweeping generalizations that are grossly different from the comment I initially made. furthermore, i want to make clear that I do not believe any of those quotes i stated two lines above...i'm just using them as popular stereotypes that some ignorant people like to use.
 
Maetryx, i agree with what ur saying, but white racism isn't a myth created by racial groups to gain sympathy ... personally, I believe that all groups do like to act the victim...and rightfully so...my original pt was that jews do it more than other groups...is it ok to excuse racial groups from being racist? ofcourse not, that's a foolish conclusion. white people aren't the victim here, nor are they the only perpetrator of discrimination.
 
how is saying "jews complain a lot" any different than saying "jews are cheap"? I think that's the flaw in your logic. As a jew, I'm going to be equally offended by both of them.

Things like this really do lie in the wording-if you said something like "jews have efficient advocacy groups" it wouldnt be as bad, though I would still claim that it only seems that way (in comparison to other groups) because there is a jewish state that our country supports (so naturally it seems like the lobby is more effective than others). nevertheless, at least that way I could see where you're coming from. but trust me, as a jew, hearing that we "complain a lot" is offensive.

If you want, I'd be happy to discuss the disproportionate amount of documentaries about the holocaust in comparison to those about other attrocities. I believe the simple answer is that there is no malice intended, but it's natural to want to tell your own people's story (and, as we all know, jews run hollywood (umm, I'm not sure what emoticon to put there, so you can read that however you want).

I think that Israel and jews play the anti-semitic/nazi card too easily. Whenever someone says that some of Israels policies are wrong, they label that person as anti-semite (that happened in the UN summit in Durban for example). If someone agrees with you it does NOT mean that that person hates your race!

As for jews complaining about this documentary (calling it "fantasy" and "revisionist"). How do they know what she saw or heard? Hitler is one of the biggest mass-murderers this world has ever seen. But that doesn't change the fact that some people might have personally liked him. That doesn't make those people evil. That doesn't make their personal experiences "revisionist" or "fantasy". Some of the criminals in death-row and kind and friendly, yet they committed terrible crimes. Hitler could have been kind and friendly to his secretary. And I have no reason to call Traudl Junge a liar.

It's easy for Simon Wiesenthal Center to call her a liar, considering that her last moment on earth she was weak, and that she's now dead. Please, show some respect for the dead.
 
Oh god...I didn't wanna get into this...but here we go again. Now, I'm going to be careful about this since if I present raw data about Jews in America next to raw data about African Americans, somehow that makes me a racist 😕

Look, I have nothing against black people. I'm totally against any person that puts them down as a group but at the same time, I think putting them on a pedestal is just as bad.

Nothing I say is intended to apply to 100% of situations but I don't think you can argue that the things I say play a pretty big role...

When waves of immigrants come here, they come here poor...it's just the thing that immigrants do. Once here, they invariably go through a little cycle:
Poor in urban areas =>
Entrepreneurs open up convenience stores, groceries, salons, wig stores, etc. =>
Work wicked hard =>
Can afford to send kids to college =>
Next generation attend Ivy League schools, =>
Move to suburbs, buy German cars or SUV's

When you're a recent immigrant, entrepreneurship is the only way out. Limited English and credentials from another country means a company won't hire you and it's hard to get enough credit to do any huge investing...Black author Shelley Green argues that black activists should shift their focus from civil rights to entrepreneurship within the community because black entrepreneurship has been historically low.

Slavery ended over 100 years ago. Racist laws began to go away 50 years ago and were knocked out with extreme prejudice in the 60s. In the recent past, blacks were officially given preferential treatment in college admissions and job hirings and now the practice is done behind the scenes, if only to avoid law suits.

So what's the newest fight?

Recent immigrants first land in the inner city among Blacks. In time, they get out and they're perceived as having gone up the social ladder by stepping on blacks. This makes for tension...

Look around the country -- the Black-Korean conflict in LA, the Black-Chinese conflict in New York, the Black-Pakistani conflict in Cleveland...

Maybe...but in my previous sentence, I didn't mention the nuttiest one. Miami has given rise to the Black-Black conflict where the second Black is Jamaicans and other Carribeans of African descent...They're on their way up and out and Blacks are accusing them of sticking to their own, price-gouging, not giving back to the community, etc.

Answered in a second -- No -- The blacks were a million times more visible in the south during reconstruction when the KKK first came about. The big Jewish communities were in New England, New York and the midwest, with big centers in Chicago, Cincinnati, Indianapolis and St. Paul.

The answer is blacks as given by...blacks! Damn, there was an African American author I read a few years back but I can't recall his name (he was married to a white woman if that's any help) who talked about this a lot...Anyhow, what he said was that sentiment within the African American community looks down on other ways to move up besides sports and entertainment. People who try to get educated, try to move away from the inner city are labeled as "Trying to act, not black."

In any case, here's the explanation:

When you said "Blacks have it worse yet Jews complain more" I interpreted it as you saying that Blacks make less money than Jews, therefore Jews have no right to complain.

$50 is less than $100 so I arbitrarily picked those two numbers.

With just those numbers, it seems like the person who gets paid $50 should be more pissed off, no?

Well, what if the person who was paid $100 worked 4 times as many hours as the person who got paid $50?

Now do you see the point I was trying to make? Simply having less doesn't mean that you're getting screwed more...

When I made that original comment, I had intended for it to be totally hypothetical...it was only later that I applied it to real life stuff...

oh, you mean the conference where a bunch of nations who don't like Israel attempted to claim that "zionism is racism"? that specific group of people DO hate the israeli nation (i dont consider the jewish people to be a "race").
