My first experience of HHTTG was the BBC TV series, which was 3hrs, and only covered the first 2 books, and was still way too short :(

They really need to get a decent trilogy (or more) going to really get the most out of the books.

Am downloading this for later, thanks for the fixed links.

When does the movie come out? Ever since I've read the books, I've wondered how long it would be produced on the big screen.

Every version of HHTTG has been different, from the original radio series, to the records, to the TV series, to the Infocom game, to the books. The movie itself is also different. Also, Adams himself did have a lot to do with the script since the movie project had been trying to get off the ground for 10+ years. I dunno how I'd feel about any sequels.

Well, the fact that DA wrote the screenplay specifically for this film makes me think it'll be good. That, plus Mos Def (good casting choice IMO), John Malcovitch, and the rest of the cast are going to make this the film I want to see next year. :D

Well, hopefully it will be true to the story, and not "Americanised" too much (i'm still at work so haven't seen the trailer yet, so if it's purely British with no stupid Americanisms, ignore this paragraph ;)).

As for "sequels", 3 hours worth of TV series (6 episodes) was too short, and many, many bits were missed out that were in the books/radio series, so splitting it up into 3 2hr movies would be good in my opinion.

Earth is destroyed, alien who looks and acts like a strange british bloke helps an actual strange british bloke avoid the destruction, much wackiness ensues.

this better be better then the old BBC one

they really shoudl have done this as an anime, a 26 or 52 episode series, animated so they wouldent have to worry about crappy special effects, and they coudl include everything

The teaser opens with a tracking shot of the Earth from orbit, like you're flying backwards. Louie Armstrong's "What a Wonderful World" song plays over the images.

Suddenly the Earth blows up. Then the shot freezes in mid-explosion.

The words "Don't Panic" appear onscreen.

The explosion of the Earth then continues on, resuming back to normal speed. Debris of the planet fly everywhere. The camera zips through the starscape.

Then the words "The end of the world is just the beginning" appear onscreen.

The starfield resolves itself into a stylized hitchhiker hand.

The teaser ends with the words THE HITCHHIKER'S GUIDE TO THE GALAXY - Don't leave Earth without it - 2005.

Can't really tell ANYTHING based on the teaser trailer (except maybe that the CGI effects will be nice, but it's 2004 so that should be a given).
[edit]
Isn't "What a Wonderful World" the song that plays at the very end of the TV series?

Nice teaser. They certainly have some VERY nice production values on this one! Sweet FX.

Too bad that's all that can be said. This is like the first T3 teaser, it shows nothing of the movie itself, which is what I wanted to see! Gotta wonder how far they'll adapt it and what they'll do to have it keep pace with modern audiences.
