I dont think I've seen a movie on opening day since... uhh... jeez, I dont remember.

I cant stand the huge crowds of people which always includes inconsiderate sods and children that should be in bed.

Woohoo! I'm going this weekend. Sunday is usually best after a movie opening. All the geeky doofuses usually sleep till 2pm that day, so the noon showing is best :)

That's pretty much the gist of it. I think they're aiming to make it accessible to people who have never even heard of it, so you should be fine. The storyline will be different from the books anyway, although there will of course be some parallels.

I found it funny that Hitchhiker's got the same amount of stars (2.5 out of 4) as XXX:SOTU did from the newspaper I read in the morning. :)

but i never read the book or heard about it so i don't know the story, but the actual movie looks ridiculous IMO.

Always read the books afterward. To fit into a movie's time limit, they have to cut stuff out of any book that is adapted.

A lot of people simply won't like the comedy style... It'll be a love it or hate it thing, assuming they don't fvck up the gist of the series. I imagine the reviews will be all over the place.

Some people (from the short Tomatoes quotes) don't seem to get it at all.
If course the film is different from the radio and books and TV version. They are all different, that's the way it is.
Plus, it's British, and a fair few people don't get British humour, which could be why a few are negative towards it.

If you enjoy Monty Python humor (Holy Grail, etc.), you'll enjoy the humor in this one. Critics usually seem to hate British humor.

Yeah, if you read the negative reviews on rottentomatoes.com (at least the blurbs they list), they're really not that bad at all. It's similar to Sin City, a lot of the negative reviews said things like "It's too violent." Well Sherlock, that's why so many people are going to see it!

heard one of the critics on the radio talking about it this morning. he said its a dissapointment, a lot of key points in the book were left out. i was sad to hear this.

I bought the Ultimate Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy from B&N a few months ago, but I've been waiting to see the movie before reading it. Going to see it tonight.

This will actually be the first time I've gone to a theater in over five years. It seems almost a shame to break the streak...
