Hitch hikers

Do you pick them up? There's a lot of crazies out there. I think about it all the time. There are legitimate reasons that someone is without a ride too. Thank goodness for affordable mobile telephony in this day and age. I still see an alarming number of people using their thumb, however.

I would be just as leary (to get in a stranger's car) as to pick someone up!

I've been on both sides of the road. I got ditched in california once, and let em tell you, some of the people that will pick you up are sicker than some of the people hitchhiking.. And some people will try ANYTHING.. Its a sick world.. I dont usually pick up hitchhikers on a regular basis, but sometimes I will because I know how hard it is.

Another interesting thing is a local kid from the university here did a study. he stood on a street corner near where I lived for 4 hours dressed as a bum trying to get a ride. He told me he got 2 offers in that time, and he explained to both people what he was doing. He then went, chanegd into a suit, and stood there for another 4 hours.. He got about 50 offers.. Amazing how that works, isn't it?

I've always want to when I see them on the road...I feel kinda sorry for 'em. But then I remember that I have a hard time defending myself from when my cat attacks, so I'd die if a hitch hicker attacked

Biggest thing I found when I had to hitchhike is noone wants to pick anyone up. And if they do, they usually have an alterior motive.. One guy that picked me up actually tried to 'fondle' me a little. I was sitting there in the passenger seat, next thing i know his hand is moving over to my leg.. Needless to say, I'm sure his jaw hurt a little after that and I walked quite a ways from that point on..

Appearence is a funny thing.

Isn't funny how if a guy breaks down on the side of the road or gets a flat tire nobody really notices?

Now if a hot chick is broken down on the side of the road...holy traffic jam batman!

I will actually stop for ugly guys too, as long as they are driving a VW. I don't stop for anyone, no matter how hot unless they are in a VW.

Yakko: knowing the reliability of the older VWs, you must pick up alot of hitch hikers

I will usually give someone a ride if I'm not in a hurry or something.

I don't pick them up because I'm basically scared to. You never know what crazy person might be up to no good. I feel sorry for those I pass by who really needed a ride, but I'm just not willing to take the risk.
