Hitachi T7k250 and Adaptec 1420sa

Just Got an Adaptec 1420sa for my old Tyan Tiger MPX dualie (No On board SATA) and two Hitachi T7K250 drives. The drive come with the default setting of 1.50 MB transfer rate and you need to use Hitachi's ftool to set them to 3.00 MB transfer rate.

The problem is the ftool doesn't see the Adaptec 1420sa, both Adaptec and Hitachi blame each other fot the problem.

Any suggestions on how to get Ftool to see the drives ?
