I am bet Seagate is gonna Win and in the end i will get seagate i dont want my hd to fail and have to rma it back and such, but those hitachi's are sooooo fast its not even funny there burst is like 329mbs.

I have a T7K250 and it's fantastic. The boot times are pretty much the best around, which is great for gaming and just for starting windows. Transfer rates are decent, although they drop off a bit towards the inner edges. They are also quiet and cool, due to the 2 platter design. And although I like the 16MB buffer of the Diamondmax 10, I had problems getting my nforce4 SATA controller to see it, so I definitely have been happy that my Hitachi hasn't had issues like that. As far as seagate is concerned, I like the new technology of the 7200.8s, like the NCQ and low seek times, it seems that their biggest constraint is their small buffer. 16MB parts were paper launched, but are still nowhere to be found. It seems like the Hitachi T7K250 and the Samsung Spinpoint would get my vote as the best large 7200rpm drives out right now, provided you can find them for a decent price (mine was $128, but zipzoomfly has since sold out and the next closest price is like $160).
Hitachi are faster, nearly as quiet. Re. warranty - if a drive serves me well for 3 years, it has more than paid for itself.

its true that all hd fail sooner to later but the real questions is which is more reliable, last longer?
well its not the same thing as the ibm deskstar the one everyone talks about failing it has been fixed and has no problems i think i should buy it its fast quite and 3 year warranty. the question is how long do i have before it fails i know seagates dont fail alot. which is one reason i want to get
The reason for fast is because it works harder then seagate so it's more likely to fail
... if it makes you happier, go with hitache ... It's like a marriage proposal, if it doesn't work out you have no one to blame but yourself

WTF? Seagate and Hitachi both have 8MB caches. I've never heard of a 250GB drive that had anything but an 8MB cache (2MB caches are generally on drives below 160GB, and the MaxLine Plus III drives with 16MB caches start at 300GB I think). How can you criticize Seagate for a small buffer?
Or do you have some kind of special Hitachi with a bigger buffer than a Seagate?

Yeah, that was my guess too. Somewhere on Seagate's web site they note that replacement drives will be refurbished drives. I guessed they were out of 300G refurbished drives so I got the 400G drive.
And yes, I was lucky! I purchased the 300G for $152 (USD) after a $40 (USD) rebate. While not truely DOA, the original drive malfunctioned as soon as I installed it, so after a few days of troubleshooting - surface scans on a 300G drive take forever - I sent it back. The rebate check arrived last week, so in the end, I wound up with a 400G drive for $152 (USD) plus the 9 bucks it cost to ship back the original drive
I've build over 7 computers using the IBM deskstar series, still have one myself from years ago and it runs fine. I have recently made over 9 systems using Hitachi, and have a 7K250 myself. I've made 2x WD systems, 2x Seagate. I had one of the WD arrive DOA, and I had to replace the Seagate after about 1 year of usage.
Maybe I'm just lucky with Hitachi, but at the end of the day, you're going to take a risk with whatever drive you get because they are a mechanical device and will eventually fail. So make sure you backup!
People should stop relating Hitachi to 1 model that IBM made. Its stupid!
I would take the Hitachi because its quicker, and a quick HDD makes a great difference in system performance.
