Hitachi HD keeps on reverting back to PIO Mode

Hey Guys, I bought a Hitachi 500gb Desktar Drive about a year ago and I recently put it in a system I just finished building. The thing is that it seems to keep on reverting back to PIO mode after every restart. I know about the uninstalling the Ide channel/controller and it does work, but it is just annoying having to do it after every reboot.

I seem to only have this problem with my Hitachi drive. My other drives (WD, Maxtor) are both fine.

Does anybody else experience this same problem?

I have a Asus p5b-Deluxe Motherboard.

Thanks
-Dan

With CD-ROM drives, this will happen if the CD-ROM drive gets too many read errors. Any Disk errors in your System Event Log?

I would replace the cable, verify the settings in the BIOS, and then update the chipset drivers.

Run DFT on the drive to look for errors. That's usually the sign of a drive having problems.

Hi guys, I'm sorry but I am a total noob, what exactly does DFT mean? and now my hard drive doesn't even go into PIO mode anymore, just recently it starts going into "Multi-Word DMA Mode 2" I never even saw that before.

The JMicron controller included on your board defaults to PIO mode often. I would update its drivers or use another controller. I've had tons of trouble with the JMicron on my DS3.

I have a CD drive hooked up to the JMicron and it froze my PC just randomly (weird interrupts). Glad to have disabled it.
