Hitachi Deskstar 200GB PATA100 8MB = $104.99 AR at Outpost

Picked one up from B&M last week also for $99 AR. It's a 7K250 and is pretty fast and quiet too.

Review from Storagereview.com if anyone's interested.

Just FYI, I thought that IBM RMA replacement was bad, but Hitachi is even worse. I am still waiting on a replacement for my drive (80GB 7k250 SATA) which they received on 2/18 according to FedEx tracking. Of course, they are claiming they got the drive on 2/20 and asking for 14 WORKING days to process.

No more Hitachi for me.

That's weird. I had my 60GXP replaced last month. They shipped the replacement unit (7K250) next day via Airborne 2nd Day. It was one of the fastest RMA I have experienced. Why don't you contact them?

I have to agree with the above post. I had a drive that i wasnt sure if it was under warentee. I had to fax them a scan of my hard drive sticker as i didnt have a reciet. I was told on the phone that after faxing the scan of the drive front i would recieve a phone call the following day to tell me if it was under warentee. The following day I got home I had a box waiting for me. The following day!!!!! I have NEVER seen a RMA come in 1 day. Plus i got a prepaid shipping sticker to send the drive back to them. Its not nice that you cant check online if your drive is under warentee, but their service is top end.

Hitachi=IBM this is the worst drives on the market IMO...I have replaced my 60 desktar 4 times already and i am expecting a 5th. SO i am going to unload it!!

Are you sure 7K250 will be the same like old 75GXP? (I don't think 60GXP has much problem in general, because I have used 60GXP for about 3 years until I RMAed it even though it has no problem at all. Many people who had problem with 60GXP solved the problem by updating firmware. I agree that 75GXP sucks bad, but 60GXP, I would say it's user's fault, if you ask me) 7K250 has been known very reliable, fastest (among 7200RPM), and quiet (can be compared to Baracuda).

Maybe they should have already renamed these something else. The Deathstar hard drives have earned quite a name for themselves, and for a reason. Let Google be your friend and you'll see what I mean.
