Hitachi 60GB 7200RPM Notebook drive 119 refurb at the egg

Same here...but I've only have a 4200 RPM right now, this 7200 RPM would be such a huge improvement...

I just paid $148 at zipzoomfly with free 2 day shipping for a new one. I tend to stay away from refurb drives. This one ends up costing about $120 after shipping. I think it's worth paying the extra $28 for a new drive. YMMV.

I am running this HD in my IBM T42 laptop....it is very fast....

Fastest HD: Hitachi 60gb 7200rpm drive
2nd fastest: hitachi 40/60/80gb 5400rpm drive series.

Power consumption on the 7200rpm drive is almost identical to the Hitachi 5400rpm drive line, AND better than those Toshibia 16mb cache 5400rpm drives.

Btw, you can pickup this 7200rpm 60gb drive for $143 at Dell.com.....probably can toss on a coupon and get it for less......

Yup. I had a friend who got one and it was like he had a new laptop.

The reason I chose zipzoom fly was because of the free 2 day shipping. Most other places ended up costing just as much after shipping (and at that it was for ground shipping) but the dell deal might not be bad if you can find a coupon.

Dude, u posted a few seconds before I did..... 😛

anyhow, I just did a quickie search......so Zipzoomfly didin't get listed....oh well.

Hitachi, hard drive, and refurbished and not three words that go well together.
Not certain if it is wise to solicit advice from an individual who does not realize the above is four words, and not three.

Oh wow you got me, I guess I'll go crawl back under a rock sorry. Really thanks, glad we have someone perusing the forums for mistakes. I was joking BTW.

I work at IBM for deskside services. We are replacing these at a very alarming rate. It has become at least 50% of our work. We actually had to hire an extra 2 people to help with the installs. I would not buy a Hitachi new let alone referb. most of our replacements are referbs. IBM is shipping them to China, the "test them" and ship them back. Most of them start clunking during the install of the build. I tell all my customers to use the burner and keep a back up of there data! We rolled out 240 new T42's and at least 70 or so have already come back with bad drives! And that is in just 2 months.

So those are 4 words that do not go together well!

FYI, this is THEE notebook harddrive to have right now....

I won't disagree with that but refurb doesn't sound good. For all you know it might be in better shape than a new one since it's probably been inspected better but then it's more than likely still messed up. Seriously saving $30 really isn't worth it if you have critical data stored on your laptop and you backup only at the end of the day.
