Hitachi 4GB Microdrive

I have all Windows XP machines and they won't allow me to format the drive in FAT16 which is what I need to use for my digital camera. Is there a program I can use to do this? TIA

First, FAT16 has a 2gig limit for each partition. Im not sure if your camera will see the other partition etc.

At command prompt, try "Format [drive letter] /FS:FAT".

Im just not awake...

Can't your digital cameras (if they are advanced enough to use a Microdrive) format it themselves? Any decent camera should be able to do this.

FAT16 CAN support up to a 4GB volume, however this is only when using 64KB clusters. I highly doubt any device supports 64KB clusters for FAT16. Its rare.....


It would be best to format the drive from the camera. If the camera can't do that, then it likely doesn't support the microdrive at all.

I have formatted it in the camera and when I read it with my card reader it says it has a FAT file system. I think I'll have to sell it or find someone who wants to trade it for two 1GB CF cards :disgust:
