Still, seems like this could be a nice deal for the money.

The Hitachi PD1 units are Plasma Displays, meaning they are not equipped with a built-in TV Tuner. These units require an external TV Tuner to be used as a TV. This display DOES NOT include a TV Tuner. Native resolution of 1024x1024, this 42-inch panel can handle HDTV signals.

At 1024x1024 it can not display 1080i. It will downconvert the signal. You can get a new EDTV plasma for only a few hundred more.

also saw this on a centralcomputer ad in the bay area newspaper.. planning to check it out.. didnt state anything about screen burns.. anybody have any experience with plasma displays.. im a DLP owner currently so its never been a problem.. native resolution on this plasma is 1024 x 1024.. it says it supports 1080i though.. just like other HDTVs.. for example DLP displays.. their native resolution is x720.. but they display 1080i fine

and iwth this screen burn stuff.. if i check one out at the store that doesnt have any signs or minimal signs.. what are the chances that it will get worse or ill get screen burns

If it doesn't have it, don't worry about it. Use the screen scrubber feature if it has one, and watch out for station logos or tickers.

i was definitely going to pick one up because at that price its not bad at all.. (centralcomputer over in the bay area was also advertising this on the local paper and did not mention anything about having screen burns).. but i did some research and found that there is no DVI input.. and DVI is something i NEED, so will have to pass this up.

anyone have experience with DVI-->VGA adapters?

No plasma can display native 1080i, most can't even natively handle 720p (the don't have enough horizontal pixels) they all downsample, however most 42" plasmas have 1024x768 native resolution.

actually most 50 inch plasmas are 720p capable, but you're correct, no 42 inchers areeven 720p. I'm tempted by the price, but no DVI or HDMI means no hd-dvd will play on this when they come out.
